Hurst shifter question

My ‘07 GT/CS has a Hurst Billit shifter installed. It is very precise and I love the feel, however, you cannot speed shift it. It clicks into & out of gear. Every gear, whether you are getting on it or not. Also, it will not shift into 1st unless you are going under 5 mph, like the trans is a non synchronized, but I know it should be synchronized. Won’t go into second coming down in gears either unless you are going pretty slow. Anyone else have this or experienced this?

Drain transmision. Fill with Penzoil Synchromesh. Report back results.

Is that going to be superior to the original? I called Hurst and they had not heard of this problem. Be a bit before I can, but I will give it a try. Thanks

If the shifter has shift stops, they're probably not adjusted properly.

I’ll check, but travel stops wouldn’t account for the pause between gears. Thanks

Drained the trans & refilled with Penzoil Synchromesh. No descernable difference. Unless it takes time for it to smooth out. Checked the shifter install too, everything seems in order

Make sure the bottom of the shifter offset is correct.

NOTE: Offset (long side) of connector located on stick bottom must face towards the driver’s side. If the serrations on the lower stick are facing the passenger side, then the connector is in the correct orientation.

I’ll check. Everything looked good when I did the fluid change. I’m wondering if the sychronizer has gone out.

Probably the tranny, not the shifter.

I found old threads showing crunchy shifting being caused by crappy TR 3650 trans. Anyone else rebuilt thiers, or replaced it with something else? I don’t race, but I do love to shift

Sounds like your clutch could be dragging, not disengaging fully..

Fixed

The trans was apparently shot. I ended up putting in a TR6060 6-speed. There may have been some shifter issues, but the synchros were pretty much gone too. Thanks

Well, there are NO notches or other resistance producing things between gears built into the Hurst, it is just a stick through a smooth round ball in a socket (bracket), any notches are inside the transmission and magnified by shorter travel of the Hurst. The Hurst reduces travel by near half so to do same work overcoming trans notches requires near double effort.

Why I added an extension that only slightly increases travel while reducing effort and raises my arm enough elbow never hits funny bone on console lid. It also slightly angled the stick back.

And this helped mine:

I loved the old-school look of the Hurst Shifter, but wanted the MGW version, so I welded the hurst stick and ball onto the MGW, best of both worlds!
