I took advantange of the warm weather (50 degrees) yesterday and installed my new shifter. I just wanted to mention, like most other posters here who have installed this, that a 10mm deepwell socket will make your life easier. Also, it was kind of a pain to get the bottom part of the boot back in. I used a hairdryer to warm it up and make it a little more flexible. I then soaped up the very bottom lip, and it was a lot easier. Some people complain about it being notchy.....I like it. I love the short throws and the old school look. Now, if I could only drive it. C'mon Spring!! The pics are a little washed out due to the trouble light and flash combined. The ball is not all white as most people already know.

Looks good. I like the 'hurst' dashboard bling. Really cool. I'd install one, but I'm not crazy about the white ball shifter ****. I had one of these in a car a long time ago (85 GT) and it felt too slippery to me. Will the factory shift **** fit on the hurst parts? I know, lots of complaints about the factory ****....I just like the way it fits my hand.

You can buy the Hurst shifter in a version that uses the factory shift ****.

Outdoor storm - what do you mean the Hurst **** is not all white? ps How's that big white dog of yours?

It's not all white as in the word "Hurst" and shift pattern are black.

I didn't like the way the white ball looked and I also didn't like the fact that the ball said Hurst on it so I bought a black ball. BTW it looks good Tom~

Hey Tom, coincidentally I also used last weekends warm weather to install my Hurst. Gotta love some warm weather, especially this time of year.

I installed mine last night. I'm not too crazy about it though. I'm having trouble getting used to it. The first drive out I missed second and grinded gears. I never have done that before so I felt pretty bad about it. It just seems like it takes some effort to change gears, maybe even a little notchy as some are saying. The install was very easy and I believe I installed it properly. I lubricated the stem on the shift rod linkage so it should be moving freely but it still seems like it takes to much effort on the first to second gear change. Maybe it will loosen up over time. I think I will try it out for a couple of weeks. If I still don't like it I will sell it to someone who likes that sort of feel.

You may want to make sure you didn't over-tighten the tranny linkage directly under the shifter. If you crank down on this too much, it will bind. I just tightened it until snug then backed it off about a half turn. With some lock-tite on the threads, you should have no problems with it loosening on it's own.

Tom:

How much higher is the setup with the Hurst shifter than the stock shifter? Can you still rest your arm on the centre armrest and shift gears easily?

I think it's a little bill taller....but not very much. I haven't tried to rest my arm on the center rest and shift yet. I've only shifted it a few times, and that was without driving it. I hate snow.

Great. I'm glad I could help. This is a common problem I've seen with several installs that I probably would have had myself if I hadn't read about it before the install. This is why these forums are so great to have.

I believe it is smaller than a pool ball. It feels fairly small in my hand, but I think it is a good size for a shifter ball. Maybe someone can go out and measure it for you. I would, but I'm supposed to be working.
