How fast should the 1-2 shift be?

As the car is breaking in I'm .... enjoying it more. Pegged it in 1st, but the shift into 2nd was not nice and smooth, more notchy and harder to shift that at normal/low rpm. This sound right? Clutch engages more towards the top of the travel.

Thx

I always found the clutch to be overly sensitive on the S197 GT. My dad, whom drove manuals since he could drive, found the clutch to be very light and also more sensitive than a cable clutch.

The 1-2 and 2-3 is very clunky on my 07 GT if you're not careful with the throttle and clutch pedals. I find that if I load down the throttle a bit more as I slowly lift off the clutch for the 1-2 and 2-3, it shifts smoothly like an automatic. The 3-4 and 4-5 usually just result in a slight "clunk" if you're overly sloppy - almost reminiscent of driveshaft/rear-end slop. The drive-by-wire throttle certainly doesn't help because it's not sensitive for the first 1/8" of travel.

Body mounted shifter held solid trying to engage a transmission that's connected to a motor twisting/torquing at high RPMs. I've dealt with the problem by installing an MGW shifter and CHE K-member brace w/ torque limiters - this has significantly reduced the problem and 'lockouts'. Next step - motor mounts.

This man knows. Just switching to an mgw was enough for me but I'm sure it would be that much better with the k-member brace/tq limiters. The stock and other cheap shifters (such as the hurst competition plus) tend to bind horribly when powershifting for above reasons mentioned.

this is absolutely my thoughts.... the shift from 1st to second in normal/low rpm range is very clunky and the clutch does engage at the top of the travel... i just bought an 06' gt with 6k miles... i wonder what gives?

not really a big deal to me... but i think its just the way it is.
