I went with the Steeda Pro-Action struts since I didn't care about adjustability and ordered them from Tillman. Please tell me Chris that Tokico doesn't make these......

 

Yeah, I'm also glad I've decide to stick with Konis. I've bought three sets of Koni yellows for three different cars (including my Bullitt) in the last 5-6 years, and I'm planning on buying at least two more sets (for my '08 GT and my Mini Cooper) in the next 12-18 months. Never had a problem requiring warranty service from Koni yet, but I have met a few people that worked for Koni NA at the racetrack, and have a good friend that sold them for years, and feel confident Koni will take care of me if I ever need warranty work.

 

yea i bought tokico's a way while back, with great customer service thanks to CR.

I'm just worried now that my tokico's will crap out

 

Mine makes a clunking noise every once in a while. I am not sure if I didn't torque them down enough or if it's blow. The design of the shock is poor for tightening IMO.

 

I got a ton of calls asking as to the quality of the Tokico DSpec shocks and struts. Let me clear this up. The product is GREAT. It seems as if there were a few units shipped. You have to remember, we shipped out over 300 SETS, and seem to only have a handful of issues. I'm estimating 3-5 people with genuine issues with manufacturing problems.

The only thing that sucks in this situation is Tokico's warranty. The actual product itself is great, and there's no reason why I wouldn't put a set on my own vehicle.

Also maybe you should point them in the direction of this thread and how many potential customers they may lose over the lack of customer service and warranty handling procedures.

I currently have the D-Specs and love them but when they fail if this is how they handle their warranty i will choose another brand and I will stop recommending them to other Mustang owners.

 

Am I the only person that gets shoved around Tokico's phone menu for an hour before talking to someone? I think I ended up with the janitor on the phone, anyway...

I spoke to Hector at Steeda a while back and he told me that the Pro-Action shocks where actually Tokico HP's.

 

You're not the first vendor to have this problem and is one reason I refused to sell Tokicos long ago. I've been a Koni dealer for many, many years now and never had these kinds of problems. Tokico considers it a cost of doing business I guess and when your customers want you to sell them on almost no margin then you get stuck on the losing end when there is a warranty claim.

 

Talked to Chris today and found that out too. He says though that Steed spec'ed out their Pro-Action struts and Tokico builds them for Steeda. They will certainly be better than the stock struts, but I just hope I don't have any problems with them based upon the D-Spec experiences. I've had good luck over the years with Tokico on other cars. I used to have a Datsun 280Z that I tricked out and used Tokico Illuminas back in the day that were outstanding.

 

I think I will be getting the Koni's. I was all primed in the next few months for the D'specs but....

 

I checked out Steeda, Tokico, Bilstein Koni and the Multimatics (FRPP). After I evaluated everything I could think of (design, reputation and price), I went w/the FRPP.

The jury's still out on how they perform, (they're sitting in the garage waiting to be installed) but if they're good enough for a Shelby GT, I'm sure they'll be fine.

Btw, I have Koni reds on my SVO and they're great!

Thanks for telling it us like it is. My stockers are getting ready to die and I was considering Tokicos as well... will reconsider now.

All of our Mustangs come with Tokico's from the factory IIRC.

Some of the Bilstein users have had problems with warranty replacement as well. I have a set of Edelbrock IAS on my Crown Vic, but Edelbrock doesn't have any for the Stang. I've never had to return anything to Edelbrock, but their tech support is kind of flaky.

 

I had the Edelbrock IAS shocks on my F-150 at one point and had one blow out. I had to buy one direct from them then ship mine back for a credit.

 

When was that? There were a lot of complaints about leaky IAS shocks around 98-01.

My Crown Vic is unique in that the rear shocks are a ROYAL PITA to replace (98-02 only, 03-up was revised) and by far, Edelbrock's IAS shocks were engineered very well and was easy to install. No other shock even comes close at least for my application.

Some of the Bilstein users reported the bottom of the shock welds failing and Bilstein refused to replace them under warranty or gave them the run around over the phone.

KYB has gotten great reviews though but I am not sure how good they are for the S197.

 

About 4 years ago. I loved the IAS Shocks and if they had them for the Stang i would get them in a minute. When i lifted my truck I had to get rid of them and go with the Bilstiens and I can say without hesitation that when the Bills fail I will be going back to the new Edelbrock Remote IAS Shocks. Best shock I have ever used.
