HELP...Question about UDP'S!

I had a set of underdrive pulleys installed on Friday, car is running good and everything seems ok except I notice a little oil on the crank pulley, not much just a little, I have a feeling that no silcone sealnet was used around the washer and bolt. NOW is this somthing that I should be concerned with or is it ok to let it go, like I said its a little not much but you can see the residue were its getting on the pulley, Im afraid to the bolt out again and have it retighten, any thoughts??? thanks Also no puddles or drops around the engine or swaybar or ground, so I think is just a little coming out at a time.

If it's a small leak, than yes your assumption is correct. No it's not something that is alarming, but check your oil levels maticulously until you get your problem fixed.

So, should I take it back and have them remove the bolt and put a bead of silcone around the washer and bolt? I dont have the bolt that steeda sent with the kit to install the pulley, is that ok? and should I buy a new bolt and have it put in correctly? thanks.

You can have them remove the bolt and use the thread sealer and reinstall. This SHOULD correct your problem, assuming this is where the oil is coming from, which makes sense.

Once the pulley is seated correctly, you do not need the bolt from Steeda anymore. When they're pulling it out, as long as they do not remove the pulley, you'll be okay. You can just torque back to specs with the proper sealant.

Yep I agree just take it back to whoever did the install and let them fix it. It won't take 5 minutes to fix.

+1, the bolt is designed to be used once, it stretches when torqued.

If you pull it off and try to reinstall it, nothing may happen, but it also might shear off. You don't want THAT to happen!!!!

It sounds like the installer didn't put gray silicone sealant in the keyway when they installed your pulley set. That means that your harmonic balancer will have to come off the car again - hopefully you didn't toss the Steeda removal bolt?

Everyone seems to be on target here. I had the same problem. I DID put a little RTV in the keyway during install, but none on the washer. I went to the local Ford dealership and got a new bolt, in stock, $6. Pulled out the old one and tossed it, but that black silicone sealer goop all over the washer, and reinstalled. So far no more leak. The problem w/ leaving it, although it won't drip, and is a small leak, is oil gets flung all over the front of your engine compartment. My sway bar, other pulleys, etc. were getting that oily film on them.

Well, I took it back today, the gentlemen who did install did put silcone on the keyhole, just not around the bolt and washer, today he removed the bolt and washer and quite a bit of goob to both and reinstalled it, looks to be working so far, he did though reuse the bolt, think that is ok? but thanks for the help and quick responses!

I also agree with everyone here. The silicone sealer needs to be put in the keyway and the bolt. I also agree you should replace the torque to yield bolt. It is only designed to be used once. But I will go one step further. I would have them pull the the underdrive pulley and clean the oil out of the keyway. I don't think it will seal up will oil present myself. Jusst my .02$
