Ok Gang, I have an 05 Mustang GT. I bought it used with around 8k miles on it. It's a black auto with slp loudmouths, 18x10's on the rear loaded with Avon 275 45 18s (So traction isn't bad at all). Also something of a performance mod is the Eibach Springs. The guy told me he did a 13.8 at fomoso raceway in 100+ degree temp. I believe him.

Now.... This spring/summer I'm going to do one of 2 upgrades. They are quite different cost and performance wise, but some informed input would be greatly appreciated.

1. Put on a procharger and be done with it! (Go really mild boost to get around 380 - 400 rwhp)

2. 4.10 Gears, JLT Cai, Steeda Underdrive Pullies.

Here is the deal, just as it is my car clearly isn't world class fast, it's moderately zippy. On one hand I think getting it down to 13.3 or so would be plenty and plan 2 might get me there. Figure 25-30 extra hp and significantly lower gears (remember it's an auto)

Obviously Plan 1, is going to be big daddy, but if possible I'd like to avoid stressing the motor as I plan to drive it for at least a couple of years....

So those of you in the know, if you have time, give me of sense of what you would think about.

1/4 mile et for each plan
HP increase for each plan
Cost of each (parts and labor)

IMO, you could see mid to low 13s with option #2. Although I only have 1/8-mi runs to refer to, I was able to run mid-13 equivalents on street tires with just the 4.10 gears and a CAI/tune. Since I went to drag radials (and the weather cooled off), I've gotten down into the low-13 range. And with LT headers, my equiv is now about 13.10 or so.

And if you stick with the tires you mentioned, I would guess maybe mid 12s with option #1 (assuming no other changes). Traction will be your challenge to going any quicker, I believe.

Don't forget a tune from one of the reputable tuners like Bamachips or Alternative auto into your cost in option 2. Just ballparking, but maybe $1400 for option 2 including a superchips tuner and $4000 + for option 1. Quite a difference in cost and reliability if you ask me.

If it was my daily driver, I wouldn't even consider option 1 for the risk of damaging the engine no matter how tempting the power increase. Not saying it will happen, but then you'd be out another $4k for a shortblock. Option 2 would really add driving pleasure, especially with one of the better auto tunes. It is also something you could do in steps, since you could hold off on the gears and pullies for a while and get in for less than $700 for the tune and air intake. This will be my mod plan if I purchase an 06 auto.

You could probably drop down 4 tenths with a new torque converter. There's another thread on this.

Thanks guys, I am leaning towards leaving the car NA and going with plan 2. I would love to be able to do that and still get 330-350 rwhp with bolt ons. Just not that much available right now.

I know that heads and a cam can be done, but at this point we're looking at the same price as a blower. By the time competitively priced heads come out, I'm hoping to have picked up a shelby.....

Who can say

Don't forget you could give it a little 75shot of Nitrous and get yourself down into the 12's if you do it right with your gears and all.

Thanks Nick! First you tell me how great it is with option 2, then you tell me that now you're really wanting option 1.

I THINK YOU'RE PROBABLY EXACTLY WHERE I WILL BE.

Have you dyno'd or taken it to the track since (and before) 2 was completed???? How is the old SEAT OF THE PANTS'O METER?

UHHH Why would you put on underdrive pulley with a s/c??? Wouldn't super charger turn slower ya think

With a N/A Auto 2005 you could do a lot better.

Check my sign.

Next season i'm going to 4.10 and surely somme drag tire. My goal is 12.60. My last best time was the last day of the season, pretty sure i could do much better with my actual setup.

Get the better of your actual setup and when you're stuck in your time you could start thinking of new mod like power adder

75hp of Zex took us to the 11's without even a gear change.

Well if you read my post you would see that I was considering 2 options. They were listed as one and two.

Beyond that option 1 contained (AND BE DONE WITH IT) which kind of means nothing else, which would include ud pullies.....

Now this might have been written in a nebulous manner, but EVERYONE else got it.....YA THINK?
