Help! I need suggestions on which headers to get

I am thoroughly confused when it comes to headers (among other things). When I purchase a set for my NA stang I need for them to be street legal due to NJ emissions testing. Are there any decent performing shortie headers that someone could suggest getting?? Or maybe street legal longtubes? Whatever the choice I would need to be able switch the CAI + dyno tune back to stock for emissions testing in the furture and hopefully not have to remove the headers also???? I told you I was confused.
Thanks for any help you can offer
Mark

Mark, just sent you a PM. Give me a call. As Paul probably has told ya, I've had longtubes for over a year and they are AWESOME!!! Any questions you got, I can help you out. Give me a ring when you get a chance.

Shorties don't really do anything except look better than stock manifolds. I would get longtubes with highflow cats so you are legal.

Technically...there aren't any. But, each state is different in terms of emissions testing for exhausts. In PA, where I am at, as long as you have cats (stock or hi-flow) and no CELs showing on the dash, you pass!!! I can't get enough of my AR L/Ts, catted H, Borla Stinger combo. SICK SOUND!!!

How much do you want to spend? I researched exhaustively for months when I was shopping for long tubes. I finally settled on OBX longtubes. They are stainless, equal length, and very well made. Best of all they were $550 shipped and included 2 different h-pipes. Fitment was perfect, Welds were awesome, and the flanges are nice and thick. I would buy those headers all week long and twice on sunday. there is a pretty huge thread on this board about them as well. that is my 2 cents.

Best of luck!

Maybe 5hp in the midrange, nothing on top.

BBK ceramic LTs all the way...A lot of people go with OBX and many have had great results but IMO I would rather spend the extra 50-75 bucks to get a ceramic coated header that will keep engine bay temps down and is more of a name brand.

I love mine so far.

I still am not convinced LTs do much besides make the car louder. I have heard some LTs loose midrange to gain only a slight portion up top. I would much rather have the power lower in the curve myself -- especially for street driving.

Unless you have other mods to take advantage of them, I still am waiting for convincing evidence LTs are worth the money.

However, out here in CA, you don't have to ask about whether or not they are legal (if in doubt, it isn't legal here), so maybe I am biased.

Kooks LT's Installed mine at the same time as my delete plates with a updated tune. I noticed a big differance in performance.

not quite what I had in mind and definitely not worth the extra money
Thanks Tom, and thanks to everyone else for your help too. Unless I can find a way to "pass" the emissions testing with LT's I will have to look at a diffferent mod to set my sights on.

You're welcome..... the main reason why I did shorties was because I bought them used and cheap (FRPP ceramic shorties) and because they look much better than the stock units. I had just powercoated my cam covers, and the ceramic shorties look good down there with them. I didn't buy them for power.
