Help with C&L install!

I have run into a brick wall while trying to bolt the shield into place!!!!!! The bolt over the drivers side is obviously no problem but the bolt closest to the grille just won't reach to the heat shield?????

PLEASE HELP!!!!

My C&L heatshield only has one bolt, the same one used to attach the stock airbox. The front edge of the shield is secured using a cable tie.

So is that just your solution or is that the case with everyone?

Maybe they changed the design since last year, but mine was only supposed to have one bolt, not two. There was nowhere to even put a 2nd bolt.

There is a hole for a bolt but it is filled with a zip tie.

Step 4. of the installation instructions begins...
Tighten the bolt that secures the filter shroud and use one of the supplied zip ties to secure the front of the filter shroud to the closest ABS line using the hole that is already drilled in the filter shroud.

Only using the factory bolt hole with a nice chrome bolt and fender washer along with the factory rubber grommet. No use for zip ties to a brake line.

How would a zip tie break a line? And yeah reading the instructions do help every once in awhile.

The zip tie wouldn't "break" a line, it is used to hold the heat shield to a "brake" line. Where the heat shield meets the front of the car after you've bolted it to the stock bolt hole, there is an aluminum block with a couple of black hard brake lines coming out of it. This is where you use the zip-tie, wrap it around the closest hard line and through the hole in the heat shield before tightening.

My zip-tie disappeared after a few months (not sure when, exactly) so I ran it without one. Never had any problems.

I couldnt get mine to bolt into my liking so Ive been running mine without the shield. Now that I have my shaker hood scoop installed Id like to find a way to duct it so the CAI gets more of that fresh air though. For now the duct is just pointed at the CAI.

I have to say after all is said and done the fit of the C&L CAI compared to my prior K&N system is disappointing to say the least. As little bang for the buck one recieves with the K&N aircharger at least they did a great job in R&D portion because that thing fit great; comparatively speaking.

Sure it wasn't the installer? I installed my C&L in less than 20 minutes and everything fit like a glove.

Well on mine it seems like the brake lines going in to the ABS unit are in the way. Im probably to get a friend of mine who works in a body shop to make me a box out of sheet metal or fiberglass. Probably end up using some card board to figure out a basic shape to get measurements and then make the box.

It can be done... I did it last August when I first installed my Shaker.

Hey Don, thanks for chimming in. I remember seeing those pics before I guess I just need to put some more sweat into making it work. Id like to see If I can figure out a way for it to pull more fresh air from in front of the wheelwell and block off heat and pulling air from the engine.

I never said it was difficult to install, in fact if you would take a minute to get off your high horse and read that I was trying to find a way to bolt it in both places rather than using a zip tie. I appreciate your concern though.

Adam, let me know what you come up with because I am also going to try to fabricate either a bracket to bolt up the heat sheild or possibly even a whole new sheild. Just keep me posted.

I just fiddled with mine for a bit and it fits really well. It does state in the instructions you may have to "bend" the ABS lines a bit out of the way for a really good fit. I have them a bit of a pull and they did move a bit for me and give the extra .25" I needed for a 99% perfect fit with clearance.

I didn't use the zip tie either, didn't see the point or need.
