Help with Bassani X-Pipe install and a question...
Hi all,
I just recently had a Bassani X w hi flow cats installed and I have a couple of questions: First of all, the pipe is banging around under the car and it appears to be coming from the cats banging against the heat shields( I think thats what they are are, they are located right above the cats). I got under and looked at them and I could not even slide my pinky through the gap. Is there any way of adjusting the pipe for more clearance? This is happening on my passenger side only. Secondly, the exhaust note coming from the car while it is in drive is normal, but when put in reverse it sounds totally different, almost as if something was vibrating in the catalytic conv. It is very noticeable while in the car, not as much when outside but it is there. This is also only happening on the passenger side cat as well and only when shifted into reverse. I am going back to the shop that did the install to see if they can find the problem, but I was looking for some info before I went in just in case. Thanks for alll the help!!

I had a Bassani X that was modular with removeable cats and/or race pipes. It was the biggest PITA that I've ever had for any of my cars...... Here's what I can suggest:
1) The X portion can be installed upside down... the hangers on it are long enough for it to be mounted either way however if it is indeed upside-down, the clearance will be much more reduced. Make sure they have it the right way.
2) If the "legs" that attach to the factory exhaust manifolds are not seated properly, they will rattle at certain RPMs. EVEN IF THE BOLTS ARE TIGHT, they will rattle..... I had this problem after almost everytime I R&R'ed the pipe, and had to go back under the car and re-seat them.
Good luck with yours..... I ended up selling mine and going back to the Pypes offroad H that I had before.

Thanks for the replies so far.
TOM: Is there a way to tell if it the X portion is upside down? Are there markings on it?
Faber: I dont think that the sound is coming from the panhard bar, it def sounds like it is banging around underneath the passenger seat but I will double check the clearance around the bar to make sure.

I had a rattle for a while in my car that I could have swore was an exhaust hanger. I searched like mad to find the source, and i turned out being a wobbly panhard bar. It also sounded like it was coming from odd places. what about the tranny crossmember? seems like the load would put pressure on the opposite side of the crossmember while in reverse, which may tighten some tolerances and cause a rattle.
