Headers question?
Headers question?
I haven't done any mods to my mustang in quite a while. I was thinking about doing some headers. Will I get that much more horse power from them? All my current mods are at the bottom and I don't know how much I would benefit from them. Right now I just have a bassani x with no cats and the Borla/Ford Racing stinger mufflers. I am also on the fence whether or not to change to an H-Pipe. I will probably stay with no cats but how would the H change the exhaust note from the X. Would it be quieter? I am not sure as to what it would do for the sound. Anyway if somebody could give me suggestions on brands and the best prices I would appreciate it
Price - for the most part, you will get what you pay for. Given that you do not want to deal with leaks, rust, etc... down the road, spending some money on good headers that are ceramic coated or SS at a minimum will make you much happier in the long run.
H vs. X - H will give a bit deeper tone, X a bit more "euro".. power, eh, depends on the piece, both are a large improvement over the old day when pipes were individual runs out the back, so don't sweat this one as much as making sure it works and fits well with the header choice.
Power - proper equal-length shorties work much better than I anticipated in our 2005 GT - we were using Dough Thorley's on that one. But if budget / emissions allow, the long tubes are the way to go. I have them on both my Mach 1 and our F350 V10, and they are worth not only the increase in power and sound, but also in efficiency.
That all said, there's JBA's, Doug Thorley, Kooks, all off the top of my head are good. There's also others that will work equally well, but again, what little extra you may pay for up front, if you do your homework you will be happy in the end. If you skimp on them, you will be disappointed in the long run.
