Headers

I think that your tuner might be doing something wrong. You should get a lot more than that from just the tune. Other have the JBA headers and exhaust and have seen nice gains.
Also, there are only 2 CATS on the 05 stang and are supposed to already have a high flow. Where in the past there have been 4-6.

I can tell you from personally gutting out the cats on my '05 Mustang that they are not high-flow. The amount of stuff that was in them was insane. For those of you who have seen and/or removed the HC trap from the intake, it was basically like that but about 10 thousand times worse. The stuff that is in the cats is so restrictive... the holes in this material are barely big enough to fit a pin through. I can tell you, get high-flow cats from Magnaflow or someone else... don't keep these cats. The sound after gutting them out (and now basically having an off-road h-pipe) is so much louder and deeper than just with my Magnaflow axle-back. It sounds like I put long tube headers on my car. SO, they have to be restrictive.

I am in Louisiana... no testing here whatsoever. If, and that is a big if knowing this state, it ever comes to that, I will have to get some cats to throw on. At that time, it'll be real easy and cheap to do so. I was going to get an off-road h-pipe anyway... this just saved me $300.

Sounds like bad news about the headers. I'm not sure I understand, but it seems like you added headers to an exsisting exhaust system and gained only 3 HP and lost 1ft/lb of Torque. Please correct me if I am wrong.

You are correct. I added the JBA axleback and the JBA headers to a car that has already had the SCT premium tune. I am in California, so I am not going to remove the cats. My tuner is experienced and the horses just were not to be had.
I posted because I didn't want the experience to be wasted. The car sounds great and pulls very strong past 6400, I have no complaints except I was "wishing"
for more horsies!

Yep. Just added pulleys this weekend, and about to add Magnaflows X-pipe on Wed. I'm having it dyno'd on a dynojet this weekend. I'm waiting until I have to go back to my tuner to add the Cold Air.

Since there seems to be complaints of multiple threads, I'll post mine under this thread here....
I'm looking at getting the JBA longtubes, some sort of x or h pipe, maybe offroad and maybe the Steeda axleback or Bassani axleback. I emailed JBA about what the benefits and differences are between the different types of headers, i.e. shortys, longtubes, cat4wards, etc. Alex emailed me back telling me to check out their website. Not much help there! I also want to know what the big differences will be between the different x or h pipes and offroad pipes. As far as the axleback, I think I'm going between the Steeda, Bassani or Magnaflow. The one thing I want to avoid is drone and that popping sound upon deacceleration. Any input or direction is greatly appreciated.

I have the Stainless Works long tubes, offroad x-pipe, and axle back with their mufflers and polished tips. I have owned every exhaust ever made for a Mustang and this is by far the nicest stuff I have ever seen. It sounds amazing above 3,500 rpm, but there is absolutely no drone while driving in town or at highway speeds. It is loud only when you want it to be and that is in the upper rpm's. I strongly suggest calling Al at 1-800-878-3635 ext 3. Since there is an article coming out with my car, I cant give dyno results, but lets just say I haven't seen anyone else come close to my results, good luck.

Can someone please explain the sound and performance differences between the Long tube and shortys!
