Hey guys, couple of questions-

1. Has anyone installed a set of shorty or long tube headers themselves in their garage? How difficult was it and did you need any special tools, or just a socket set?

2. Will long tube headers bolt up to a bassani xpipe? Or am I forced to go with shorty's if I get an aftermarket xpipe?

thanks!

I know longtubes require lifting the engine up a bit and require a shorter midpipe.

Shorties are way easier to install and will bolt up to the stock/aftermarket midpipes.

I have the JBA shorty's that I've got in my garage. No they're not on my car yet  But its because I'm waiting for my heads to get back from getting ported and polished. I stayed away from the long tubes because you can't access the clutch without removing them. Since I'm increasing power I figure the clutch won't last very long... Just my $.02.....Besides long vs. short is only maybe 10Hp...

The latest MM&FF tested JBA, Bassani, Ford Racing, and MAC shorty headers vs. a "stock" setup. The stock setup had an intake, tune, and Bassani x-pipe and exhaust. About 1 ft.-lb. of torque gained, and 2-5 rwhp gained (most were 2-3, JBA shorties were 5). I'm not really sure if it is worth the price or the time to do the install on shorties. Those are pretty minimal gains.

Now long tubes are a different story--great gains shown, just more of a hassle to install and match up to the stock exhaust.

I bet that was not a custom tune. My issue is still sitting on my desk to be read.

But I bet the shorties will yield more than 5 with a good tune. Plus, the sound is what makes it worth it. Rrobello and I have the same set up, except I have a tune and he has shorties. His car has quite a different sound.

You can pull the tranny out and do a clutch with the Stainless Works longtubes. You also can keep the stock hyrdo motor mounts with these headers. I gained 22rwhp/22rwq with my setup. You do have to jack the motor. I'm no SAE certified mechanic and I would do the install. I've gone back over the header bolts to make sure they are all tight. The ones closest to the firewall are a bit of a pain, but can be done. Stainless Works also makes adapters to go from their headers to any exhaust. I actually still have those adapters sitting with all the OEM parts. I didn't need them due to installing the 3" exhaust. I just had the guy installing the clutch install the exhaust while he waited on the clutch to arrive.
