Has anyone Dynoed a mail order tune?

...Has anyone had a mail order tune dynoed "as is"...to see what changes needed to be made. I have no access to a dyno...and wondered how far off my timing or air/fuel mix might be..i Have the 93 Race /C&L ,by you know who...and it's great...just wondering...could i tweak mine by myself...by changing timing or adding/subtracting fuel.I have read that some tunes were right on and no changes were needed..others claim too rich or too lean..

every car is different so just becuase one car dynos fine the next might be off. Most have no problems and the tunes are pretty much on, there are a couple people that have had some problems running lean. Most are purposely on the rich side though.

I've had my Bamachips 93 race tune dyno checked, by Powerhouse Automotive on their Mustang Dyno..The results were 301 RWHP and 294 RWTQ, along with the air/fuel between 12.8-13.0 at WOT.. I then had it dyno checked, by Hybridynamics on their Dynojet, in which the results were 293 RWHP and 309 RWTQ..The air/fuel was once again between 12.8-13.0 at WOT.. Upon reviewing the results ! Doug confirmed the HP and TQ numbers looked pretty accurate, along with the air/fuel being spot on..That being said ! he didn't see any reason for either tweaking, or making any changes/adjustments to the tune whatsoever..I can also confirm that I haven't run across any problems, check engine lights or codes, since installing the Bamachips tunes well over a year ago..

I have plans to get my Steeda CAI w/elbow and Doug 93 race dynoed here soon. The 100 degree heat has kept me away. I don't like large correction factors. So I am waiting for the heat to break here in NC. I did a before dyno stock, so I will return to the same dyno with only the CAI and Tune soon. FWIW, he was the dyno operator at Mustang Week in Myrtle.

I dyno'd with a C&L racer CAI and 93 tune from Brenspeed a while back, and A/F was right on.

Since then, more parts have been added and a 93 tune from TillmanSpeed. It runs well, but is rich. In the 11.5/1 range, however there is no soot build up on the tips. We are working on adding spark and uping the A/F (i.e. make more power).

My numbers fro the 93 tune are in my sig for the best of three pulls. That was before UDP's and gears. Plan to get a dyno tune in October to squeeze a little more out.

I dynoed Tillmans 87 perf tune. Numbers and mods inthe sig. Tune was a bit rich as stated above. I would much rather have a rich than lean tune from a mail order tune as would anyone I am sure. We tweaked with the handheld the day on the dyno and got it to 315. The first pass was 312.

Havnt had it dyno'd but I have a thin black ring around my exhaust tips so I figure I'm a bit rich. I'm running the brenspeed tune for 92 but I had to have Brent tweak it due to pinging at WOT so that might be why.

Wow... 315 rwhp on 87 octane is pretty good! I am running his 93 octane.. I really cant wait to have it fine tuned. Now you said you fine tuned it with the handheld.. was that done by the person running the dyno or CR?? Also if you do in fact make changes like that.. is it a good idea to let the tuner know so he can email you another tuen with those changes? I figure thats easier then let say you have to set up the original tune back and then make all those changes again on the hand held. Sorry for all the questions.

A generic 91 octane tune gave a 10 hp increase in a 5.0 Mustang Magazine test on CAI's. Based on that, you can expect just a few hp from an 87 octane tune.

I had my car custom dyno tuned, then while still strapped to the dyno I loaded Doug's race tune. It had a slightly different A/F but it was flat and the HP/TQ curves were exactly identical. I was impressed to say the least.

The tuner that put it on the dyno tweaked it with the hanheld while on the dyno. I then sent the datalog to CR and have not heard anything back. I am going back on Tuesday to get the headers tweaked from the original install and I need to ask him again what he tweaked as I can't remember. That is exactly why I want CR to tweak it.

I got my SCT XCalII via mail order. After one run on the Dyno and one adjustment, Bamachip Doug got me 10 more RWHP. At the time, my only mod was the JLT CAI, so I went from gaining 17 to 27rwhp with just one dyno tweak. Well worth it to me, not to mention the car wasn't running way rich puffing black smoke anymore.
