H Pipe VS X Pipe - Sound and HP

Does anyone have any information or sound clips for the two with the Flowmaster axle backs. I would like to know the Hp difference and the sound. I want a good sound like the older Stangs if the HP difference isnt too much. I dont want a JAP sound coming from my car.

its a mustang so no "rice" sound will ever come from your car. HP difference isn't much so its up to you. everyone will tell you somethin different so try and find some buddies in your area and listen to their setups in person best of luck

ps- mmmm grabber orange

What I was talking about the JAP sound was the high reviving poping sound instead of the deep throaty sound that I had on my 95 Gt, H-pipe, and Flowmaster American Thunder 2.5 kit. I have never had an X pipe before so I really dont know about them and there are not very many new Mustang in my area to compare to. Thanks on the the color.

You answered your own question; an 'H' will give a lower tone, where an 'X' is more raspier. Nothing 'rice' with either, just a matter of personal preference.

I installed the FRPP X and it didnt change my sound that much at all with the FRPP/Stingers. There is a slight difference that I hear but mainly because I am in the car everyday. Never had it dyno'd so no idea what the HP increase is but I do have a sound clip of before and after with the Stingers. You will see in my case there is almost no difference in sound (on camera).

You can get good sound clips of both the x and h on brenspeeds site. Click on the sound or media links on top. He has many different sound clips with Flows/SLP/MAC/Pypes with the different mid pipes.

also, from my understanding x-pipes with cats sound deeper than off-road x-pipes. off-road sounds somewhat raspier i believe

I had a MAC O/R Prochamber and a Pypes O/R H-pipe with Flows, and I dont know if there is much of a HP difference...but there is a definite difference in sound. With the prochamber it was very raspy, and it did sound kinda exotic, almost "ricey" with the Flows. But, with the h-pipe it sounds nice and throaty and a lot deeper....although it still doesnt compare to the sound of 04 on back GT with the same setup. Very loud....you will be heard for miles!!

This clip on Brenspeed.com is pretty close, but I think it sounds a lot better in reality. http://www.brenspeed.com/info/media/hwithflows.wmv
Oh yeah, those flows on Brents car were my old ones. I sent them to him so he could make that clip. There is my 15 minutes of fame...lol.

will an aftermarket H or X with aftermarket cats change the sound much? (tone, and volume?) or does the sound only really change when you take the cats off?

I'm sorry but I don't think you'll get a deep throaty sound with the flow's. You need some stingers and a catted or offroad prochamber

I've never been able to figure this out...I know X's are higher pitched and raspier and H's are lower and throatier, but where does the Prochamber fit in to all this? I have heard it is kind of a combination of the two, but sound-wise, how does it compare?

You sound biased, especially when I read your signature...lol.

Flows with the o/r h-pipe are very deep. True, the Flowmaster sound is very unique and might sound higher pitched on the sound clilps online, but they dont capture the really low rumble that you can hear for about a mile away. People know I am coming way before they even see me.

I think I am sold on the Pypes H-pipe with my Flows after hearing it on Brenspeed and from some of your comments.

I know they have a deep nice sound, ...........I used to have them. I love the flows but they were just too mellow for me.
