Got my SLP LM but affraid to install
My SLP Loudmouths came in today but I'm afraid to put them on. I went to show them to my dad's friends who are "car guys" and they said I might have some back pressure issues. I've read a lot of posts on here and while people say them seem to be fine nobody has ever dynoed it. On person I saw said they did but then couldn't give an answer as to if it was a stock dyno or with some kind of chip. There was a five hp power loss though. On other thing that bothers me is that SLP hasn't got back to me and I sent them an e-mail a few days ago. I asked them if they had dynoed that exhaust and if it showed any gains or losses. (I know they would never say I'd lose power)
I really like the sound and for the money ($225 shipped) I couldn't think of much better when I ordered. Now they sit in the box in front of me and I'm not sure what to do. What do you all think? Thanks in advance!

Well, I think you've heard this before and that is why you are hesitating. You get what you pay for. SLP may sound good, as most state, but I want technology, performance and sound in my exhaust. I chose bassani, as they and borla have the best reputation for quality sound, technology backing it, and performance to go along. There have been articles on bassani, stating comp cats, xpipe, and axle back get 20 hp without tune, 40 with tune. The sound is literally amazing. I will never go back to anything else. I know a bunch of people on hear appreciate the sound, but like one said if you delete the mufflers period and put on some tips, that is roughly the same sound as the SLP's. This is stated by another member here, not me. I do love borla, but chose bassani on this buy. Good luck whatever you decide. I am sure if you want to sell them, there is someone here that will buy them.
Axle backs show little or no increase in performance on the 05. Power increases will be seen from working in an X or H pipe and headers with no or high flow cats. This all matters if you live in a Pollution Controlled Vehicle state like California.

Well for the moment I'm just looking for sound. I don't care if performance stays the same, I just don't want to lose any. When I get the SCT tuner then I'll go Borla or Bassani.
If I spend all that money I want the 40HP not 20HP untuned.

The loudmouths were the first mod I made. I have had them on since January and have put 5000 miles on them with no problems. Great sound and they actually gave me a pretty good bump in torque. Put them on and enjoy them.

don't listen to old dudes like that...todays cars are nothing like the cars from there generation. not saying back pressure isn't an issue or that your dad's friends are stupid.....but if i had a dollar for every old timer that said what i was doing wouldn't work, i wouldn't be financing my new gt!!!! i have friends and family like that, some of them even laugh when i tell them what im doing or what my goals are...i get the beer bought for me when all is said done
I have been debating on wich exhaust setup to run as well, and there is something that no one ever mentions when discussing this topic, and that is that ford has already put a reallly nice mandrel bent h pipe setup on the car stock, why change it, the sound and performance will come from headers, and a quality axle back setup. I know the slp sounds good, but you willl not get the performance out of this setup alone, and with headers they will be to loud...just my .02

Dude... sell ur Loudmouths if you are this hesitant to put them on. If you want a deeper, and better IMO but not as loud sound go with Magnapaks. There is engineering in their design and they are the loudest exhaust system that has mufflers (more like resonators). Ive had them and with them and a boxed predator tune i saw an increase of 14hp and 31 tq... this is all dyno proven. Best mod ive made so far is the JLT tho.. good god, i cant wait to dyno tomorrow morning!

Now with the torque gain you made was that dynoed or do you just "feel" like you have more torque? I just want to make sure your not getting the cool sound performance increase effect.

Dyno proven. At the time I think I was at 302 ft/lbs with just the SLP.

I dont have the loudmouths I had a complete delete system made once I got the car and have had no problems ever since no tune and it definately feels a little better not a huge difference but the sound is awesome and the small amount of backfire I get (mostly when its cold out) sounds really cool, not annoying like you car needs maintenance but more like a muscle car sound done on purpose that everyone seems to love. Id go ahead and put it on, if you dont like it you can always take them off
what he said ^.
This is as ridiculous as the arguements about wearing saftey gear on the motorcycle forums. Put the SLPs on. Some have dynos that prove increase in HP some have em that prove loss. Put them on and see what you think. I guarentee that you will love them.

You are not going to lose enough backpressure putting on a catback to lose power, you might even gain a pony or two. Seriously, it's just paranoia, just put it on. Ive done it on all 3 of my stangs and never lost power.
