Good performance cheap long tube headers? (Kooks knockoffs maybe?)

Ok, I read of one instance of kooks long tube headers + catted x pipe + CMCV deletes = +35hp from Tillmanspeed's post.

I'm not sure if I have $1200 for headers. Are there any cheaper headers that will show similar or greater gains for less money? Maybe cheap chinese clones that happened to be manufactured right?

I'm not concerned about the appearance or rust, etc, (unless the rust will become a danger to my engine.. will it?)

I'm probably being very unrealistic here, but I'd like to spend $600-700 for a similar setup to the kooks headers + midpipes that Tillmanspeed was having a sale on recently. Any suggestions with dyno-proven results?

If you would have gotten a cheap chineese knockoff of your $450.00 Alpine subwoofer and your $800.00 Alpine amplifier you could afford to spend the money on a quality American product such as the Kooks headers. Whenever you talk about a knockoff you are talking about stealing someones hard work designing, engineering, testing, redesigning, etc...
That is the problem today nobody wants to pay for someones hard work.

Eh, ok. How about a cheaper alternative?

By the way, my new, genuine, subwoofer and amp costed me $260 and $470, respectively. (Instead of $450, $800).

Just like I don't want to pay MSRP on my audio equipment, I was wondering if there was a cheaper alternative to paying $1200 for some headers.

I don't consider it theft any more than buying Ford GT replica wheels is theft from Ford..

I don't blame you for wanting to save a dime, I do the same, but when it comes to the headers that is about one of the best prices out there, I looked around for a while and ended up getting them too. I see you like quality, buck up the $$$ and get the Kooks you'll be happy.

Hmm ok.. price-per-hp, it's about the same as a supercharger (which is good). I'll trust your research, you've convinced me.

I'm sure I will get flamed for this, but there are cheapers alternatives.

Do a search on Ebay for "OBX Longtubes 05 Mustang".

I put those on my car, they fit good, they sound good, they are SS, and I picked up almost 3 MPH in the 1/4 with them. Best of all, I got mine for 480.00 shipped to my door.

Did you look at BBK headers?
They have coated headers for around $500.
I had some hookers on my old 67 Coronet r/t 440 for years. This was before people coated headers and paint only lasted for about a week.
No worries about rust, plus you really cannot see the headers on the S197 with the hood open.

The only thing cheap about them is the price.

Is that for the whole kit ( LT's, X and High flow cats) or just the headers?

You can get BBK's, headers only for $269 or Mac's for $384, you still need to add the X and high flow cats.

That includes the longtubes, highflow cats, and off-road pipes, so you can chose what do use. I've seen them in person. The quality is great. Haven't heard them installed yet, but I've talked to a couple people who have them, and they say they mount up good and sound good, also.

Hmm, looks like the questionable OBX's are still in the same price range as Mac's or BBK's, as in they're not much cheaper... anyone have any hp/torque figures for any of these models?

Anyone have any details on what kind of HP and heat that the cats will withstand? If you happen to have your air fuel ratio jump off by a few points, how well will the cats respond? Will they burn out? I know Kooks & ARH spend on average $50 dollars more a piece on catalytic converters alone than the competing brands.

How well do they hold up to the ARH/Kooks as far as HP/Torque. Are the flanges 3/8" thick and ground smooth inside the primaries? What kind of merge collector do they use, and is it capped off on the back side of it?

We need good pictures. I am going to make a point to get dyno comparisons right after the SEMA show. If we haven't gotten pics or dyno by then, I will set the record straight.

These OBX headers to be honest with you look really high quality for the price. They do come with both a strait race deisng midpipe as well as a catted version.

Only picture I can find right now.
