Going back to stock exhaust question

Will putting a catted x pipe back on my 2010 mustang cut the check engine light off?

With cats? Yes I would think so; assuming you have a off road x atm?

Pretty sure it will still be on. The flow will still be different from stock. Get a tuner.

Agreed.

The best option really is to get a tuner to disable the rear O2 sensors.

I'm just putting the cats in it to be emission friendly because I'm selling it and the CEL stays on

Oh, gotcha. Then yeah, you definitely want to put the cats back on. I guess you can get in some big trouble for selling a late model car that has had the emissions equipment disabled.

What are the odds of the CEL turning off?

Add cats, plug them up, reset computer. Them the light should stay off.

If the code is currently for emissions (no cats) then if you put cats on it, drive the car for awhile (a certain number of cycles are required) and then have a parts shop like autozone or whatever turn it off I'd say the odds are about 99% that it stays off.

Have you had the code pulled? Because if the code isn't for not having cats and there's something else wrong than that's a different story.

Can you not just disconnect and reconnect the battery after putting the cats back on? Will that not clear a catalyst code on the 2010 models?

If the cats you put back on are sufficient you should be able to drive it 50-100 miles or so after reconnecting the battery for the catalyst monitors to come ready again. If the light comes back on you'll have your answer.
