gear question
gear question
Ok guys i need some help here. I recently was getting 373 gears installed in my 07 auto but now im reading about 410 an they sound like they would be so much better. whats everyones input on this? Should i just stay with the 373 because i already bought them or should i by 410 instead? I dont care about gas problems so would 410s be better?
Do you have any other mods done? If you're making more power than stock 4:10's might seem like a bit much. Most auto's go 3:93's. It's hard to judge. What do you want to get out of the car? Do you plan on throwing some street slicks on the back for better off the line grip? Cause with 4:10's you'll need them.
well right now i have full exhaust, udp's, intake, throttle body, an spacer, an delete plates. I eventually would like to put some slicks on my car but not anytime soon. an maybe down the road like a year or two supercharge it.
4:10's are definently fun but just keep in mind you'll have to ease into it even more than you have to now.
Sorry I misread your post I thought you had the 3:73's installed already. Yea If I was you I'd stick those in and see how you like it. I'm assuming your 07 was 3:31's stock so that's a fair jump. Also if you plan on throwing a supercharger in it I doubt you'd want 4:10's. You'd probably opt to drop back down to 3:73's or 3:93's anyway.
Well let us know how it turns out! On a side note with that 1 peice driveshaft getting put in you might want to think about getting some adjustable lower control arms or an adjustable upper third link. Especially if you have the car lowered at all or plan on it switching to the 1 peice can change your pinion angle quite a bit which can be very bad. The adjustable lowers or adjustable upper third link will allow you to adjust that. Ask your installers to check the pinion angle before and after install to make sure it doesn't change too much.
I did 4.10's in my 07 GT automatic, but knew I wouldn't be supercharging the car.
With a supercharger, I'd go no steeper than 3.73's, and even the factory 3.31's would be OK if you go with a whipple or roots style blower that builds torque down low. Centrifugal blowers are more like turbos in that they don't build a lot of power down low, so I'd want more gear, but still no more than 3.73's. Any more than that won't be very streetable.
Naturally aspirated + 4.10's (even 4.30's) are awesome with the new GT automatics. Throw in a big stall converter and you'll love them steep gears even more!

+1 on the converter. Your stock converter stalls at 2450 which isn't bad, but it's still well below where these 3 valve engines really start making decent torque. A 3500 rpm stall converter and a set if 3.90 or 4.10 gears will make a HUGE difference. It will feel like there's another hundred cubic inches under the hood!
