fuel pump dead??

So I get about 2 blocks away from home when the motor starts sputtering and coughing. I quickly duck into a convenient parking lot and the motor stops. Idiot light is on. I do the usual fluid checking and all looks good. Try to start it up.... it starts but runs real rough and won't go beyond 500rpm. I plug in my handy X-Cal2 and is says "Error reading DTC". Grrr... Anyways, got it towed home. Will get the dealership to figure it out on Monday.

Well your pump isnt dead because it wouldnt start. My Taurus fuel pump just died yesterday. Over 200kmiles on one fuel pump. So i don't think its your fuel pump. Mine wouldn't start at all almost turned over but didn't.

How many miles do you have now?
Are the battery and alternator in good working order?

It's been my experience that when the fuel pump fails it is hot. So if you were only a couple of blocks out then it may not be hot. Filter could be clogged?

Mine was a few blocks away from home too, and wasn't hot just gave out after all the miles. Was due for emissions this week.

Got off the phone with the Service Dept. The fuel pump isn't totally dead.... it just doesn't work all of the time. So they're going to replace it. Probably just as well because I can't ever get TSB 06-9-9 to occur with a tech in the car. Hopefully the new fuel pump will cure that problem, too. http://bradbarnett.net/mustangs/gala...hesonaccel.pdf

on a lot of model year '05 Mustangs, after cruising on the highway at a constant speed for some time, punch the gas and the motor would stall momentarily. Made for some awkward passing attempts. I could never get the car to do that with a service tech along. As it turns out that problem is a fuel pump issue, too.

06 models too. Mine goes in tomorrow to get the updated fuel pump. The tech ordered it immediately after it bogged on him twice in 10 minutes.
