FRPP vs. Bama Tunes

... vs. iTunes...

Anyone have experience with either? I know many people use the Bama tunes. It seems like the best deal since you can get free tunes for life. I just didn't know if anyone had any issues. I like consistency and the dependence of something to work. So I wanted to compare the FRPP vs. Bama. FRPP I know is factory tuned and probably the most reliable. It is also the most conservative. Also non adaptive to new parts. The Bama tunes are about the opposite.
Thanks!

About two weeks ago I installed a cai and tuned it with a bama tune a couple times now. So far, no problems. Not getting any codes and the engine/tranny have really woken up. Been a long time since I've felt second gear break the tires loose. Too long. lol!

I had the FRPP tune that came with the FRPP Power Upgrade Package - FRPP CAI, GTA Mufflers, FRPP 91 Tune and an oil filter (never figured out why they include that last one).

The FRPP tune, when combined with the CAI, gave me slightly more power than stock, at least by my seat of the pants reckoning. I recently installed Brenspeed tune, however and now there is a big difference. The Brenspeed tune is more agressive, particularly at higher RPMs. Have not tried Bama but keep reading good things about them.

I've been running various bama tunes since 2005 and I don't have any complaints. The only odd thing I've noticed is that if I've been driving on the highway at speed for a long period of time (hours), when I come to a stop and then accelerate it will sometimes stall on me.

thats a fuel pump issue- theres a tsb on it...pump foams up and when sudden flow of fuel is needed it drops pressure for a sec...they revised the pump to fix the problem, but out of warranty, I wouldnt bother. my 06 still has warranty, but i never had it changed- after a long cruise, just romp on it a second before slowing and it will barely stumble...mine bucks violently otherwise- stock tune btw

Thanks for the info. Glad to know it isn't a tune issue.

I didn't load the race tune yet, as I fear it will put more strain on the engine. I use my car as a commuter car. Is there any downside of using the race tune daily?

FRPP tune = very conservative, Badillo Engineering LLC (IIRC) are the guys who actually do the tuning work for FRPP, I'll have to check the little sticker thingy under my hood.

OK, good to know. I have recently thought that I might look more into Steeda's adaptive module. Sounds like the best way to go.

I've run it daily for almost two years now, the only drawback is a VERY touchy pedal but you'll get used to it and adapt. When you first put in the tune you will chirp your tires without wanting to and feel the difference especially in the 3.5k to 6.5k range.

Nope, no downside at all. It is more aggressive, so taking off from a start will require lots of patience and practice to keep from chirping the tires. That is, if you think that's a down-side. lol! Also, the shift points are harsher. So if you're toting around a lady, she may thing it's too rough a ride. If she doesn't - marry her fast!

On a side note, the Steeda Adaptive Calibration looks pretty interesting as well.

Bama's 93 Race tune screams! It's the only custom tune I've used since 2005, and have never had a single problem with it.

Unless you are into changing octane every other day for fun I don't think you would get much use out of that tune... the stock ecu already adjusts automatically to changing conditions, don't believe me, blow at your filter very lightly...

that steeda things sounds like a quick way to dump $400 bucks and get nothing from it.

I kind of thought this too. It just seemed interesting in theory that it would adjust to modification as such you wouldn't have to go back and re flash a new program for new bolt ons. It's really not a big deal though.
