Stop and go traffic doesn't bother me with the drone from the Bassani's. It's when I'm at about 60 in 5th and go up an incline that it gets irritating. Also, I don't think the GT/CS have any different exhaust than the standart GT's.

I want a nice sound(30-50% louder than stock, i'm guessing), but these drone complaints are scaring me...

I do a lot of driving in Los Angeles stop-n-go traffic, so I'm at the lower rpm's a lot. I get a headache driving in traffic already, will the stingers' drone make it worse?
Hmm...Do you get a headache from the stock exhaust or just because the traffic is annoying?

Because if its from the exhaust you definitely DO NOT want stingers. They are a lot louder then stock and have drone around 2000rpms.

GT/CS do not have GTA mufflers, they are stock. The Hertz GT-H and Shelby GT, however, are equipped with GTAs and an FRPP X Pipe.

The GTAs will be a little louder then stock at idle and normal driving, but when you get on them they really come to life. Very little Drone.

oh it's just because traffic is annoying, haha.

SlamMan I noticed that you have the stingers, how do you like them? What is drone anyway, lol (newb question)? Do the stingers alone cause any rattling?

I want a noticeably louder sound, not a subtle stock upgrade. So i'm seriously conidering the stingers. What is this "drone" and is it really that annoying?

sorry if i asked any dumb questions, i'm a newbie.

No biggie we were all new at some point...

Anyways, the best way I can think to describe drone is if you Plug your ears, then try to Yawn/Pop your ears like you would on an air plane, and hum all simultaneously. I know its weird but that is the best example I can give to describe it. Its just a really deep resonating tone that kind of jars your head. And Honestly its not even bad unless you are at 60mph with the windows up in 5th gear and really get on it.

I personally love the Stingers and wouldn't change anything if I had it to do over. I put together a video a while back that gives a really accurate representation to how they sound in real life.

I have been lurking in exhaust threads forever and finally decided to add to the mayhem. Below are some clips of FRPP GTA’s that I helped install on my friend’s mustang. I have an 06 myself. I think these are the best sounding mufflers for the money. They are a smidge louder at idle and a lot louder and deeper at WOT. They actually get better as they break in. They are even quieter than stock at cruising speed. Just tap the gas and GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrr.

I have been trying to figure out set ups for over a year and finally decided to bite the bullitt. Like most I have listened to a ton of clips and I find Magnapacks to be the best sounding mufflers. The set up I orig decided on was Magnapacks and O/R Prochamber. That was until I heard the GTA’s. It was also a lot easier decision since the GTA’s are half the cost of Packs. The pro is way too expensive but it is the best sounding mid pipe and my only choice.

I am not too worried about drone, but then again I haven’t installed them yet. I read on another thread that someone put Dynamat on the top of the muffler and this greatly reduced the drone. He had let them get hot and no issue. The only question was longer term effect of high heat. Don’t want flames shootin out yer *** as your driving down the road.

Thanks to all who put their $.02 in on this topic. This place can be a very valuable tool.

Enjoy, I hope these help for people that are on the fence about GTA’s

Nice clips EMOT . I too scanned YouTube for sound clips. Might I suggest one thing... ? You should never use your rear differential to jack up the car... http://forums.bradbarnett.net/showth...ht=jacking+car

That is bad. Sometimes its better to have bad hearing like me. LOL. I do plan to add dynomat in the trunk area and under the rear seats this spring then I can turn my hearing aid up!

When I get my car back, I had planned to make some vids of the resonators and Borla catback combo..... I will make some vids of the catback disconnected so that only the manifolds, offroad H, and resonators are making the noise.

SteelTown, I read that post and it's "clear as mud" as the saying goes. there was never a definitive answer to "where should you lift the rear using a floor jack?"

Anyone have sound clips of just Borla stingers with resonators? No H pipe on anything else.

I love the way my Stingers sound, and when I'm between 1500-2000 rpm, if I need to "get on it", I just downshift to 4th: if I don't get on it, the drone isn't bad at all, its a function of throttle input at those rpm. I just trained myself to wrk around it....because everywhere else they are soooo sweet, and also have a "straight through" design, which can't hurt hp...but for those who haven't yet biught the Stingers, I hear the Zoomers are great sounding w/o resonance. A little more $$, but they also look pretty cool.

OK I have the stingers and I read someplace about using either dynamat (expensive) to line the trunk and spare tire wheel well area or pink insulation (cheap like me) to line the areas.

Well I chose the cheap like me pink insulation and it has done a very nice job of taking a bunch of the drone out of the picture. Its not like I plan on using my truck that often but the insulation is covered very nicely by the cheap carpet ford gives us back there. If ou opened my trunk and looked in you might not even notice the raised height the insulation gives you.

Outside of the insulation the Stingers are just right for me. I love the way peoples heads turn when you start it up or drive by and I've received many compliments on the sound of them in the short time I've had them installed.

Spring, TX huh? Maybe, when I get back from my vacation, I'll drive up North and you can give me a ride to see how it helped. I might even consider doing the dynamat. Did you put the pink mat on the inside of the spare tire well as well?

Marc;

Sounds like a plan, would be nice to check out your GT. Hopefully I'll have the C&L and BAMA tunes installed as well as the MGW shifter.

Yes I did lay down some pink in the spare tire wheel well area. I tucked pink in a bunch of places, I do think it helped. The Mrs. said she thought it did help and she is a big critic of noise lol

I went the dynamat route. I actually used another brand, name escapes me now. It has improved overall sound level as well as significantly reducing the drone in the cabin. I doubled it up under the rear seats, in the tire well and on the trunk floor. It really wasn't all that expensive.
