I suspect it will run lean, which is more dangerous than an error code.

yeah, i think it would run lean and then go into limp mode. get a sct or diablo tuner and tune from brentspeed. you dont need that re-cal tool from ford.

Yeah, definitely go for an tuner other than the Ford re-cal. Get your tunes from someone like Doug at Bamachips or Brenspeed or Justin at VMP tuning. Can't really go wrong with any of those.

And I guess one cannot buy the FR CAI without their tuner from any vendors?

I'm reluctant to do the CAI thing because I feel like I'm getting ripped off.

The cable isn't the hard part. USB -> OBD cables have been available or many years. The tuning software is te hard part to develop.

The newest version of HPtuners has support for S197s. I haven't used it with a Mustang yet, but am familiar with it from the GM side. You really need to know what you're doing with this tuning software, and renting some dyno time with a knowledgeable tuner.

The support forums on their site are really good, and any questions you have can be answered there.

So they should just allow us all to buy one tuner and then simply pass it around to all who want huh. Great way to stay in business and make money. Also not all our ECM's are the same. So instead of talking smack in all these threads why don't you enlighten us with what you made and designed to tune our cars. Let's see all your R&D for what you sell.

Oh and where can i buy a nice laptop for 300.00?

Richard
