Ford Peformance "Oil Filter"

Back a couple months ago I saw as part of the FRPP drag performance package that bumped up the 4.6L to 320HP that it included a performance Motorcraft oil filter, which alone retailed for $15 bucks, vs the normal FL820S filter. Whats so special about this Performance filter over the run of the mill 820S filter?

I can't say for certain about the 820S and the new performance version but the old HP FL-1A filters for the 5.0 L engines (and old big blocks) had a canister with a higher burst strength and instead of suggesting 3/4 turn past gasket contact, the HP FL-1A filter instructions told you to go a complete revolution past gasket contact. Not sure if there was any improvement in filtering.

I change my oil every 5 months and bought 3 of these filters online. Over a years supply for $12 each. I don't remember where I got them though. Here are the numbers on the box, CM-6731-FL820

I found the website but now they are $13.75 each. I might have been wrong but I thought I paid $12.

Walmarts 'Super-Tech' oil filters are also very high quality, unfortunately much better than Fram. Fram has really gone downhill in the last several years, ever since 'Allied-Signal' bought them. At less than $3.00 apiece, the 'S-T' filters are a smokin' bargain.

Champion Ford in Alexandria, KY (They run a Mustang in the Grand-Am Cup series) has them for ~$8.75. I purchased two today for $18.02.

One good aspect of the filter is that is has a differnt spring inside and helps modulate oil pressure more consistantly. And the team has race data to back that up.

I stick with K&N. I keep a extra filter and a case of mobil 1 super syn
5w-20 in my closet. So as soon as it needs a oil change I do it right away, even with my busy schedule.
