Ford exhaust tip advice needed

I've got a set of chrome tips coming. Will I need to remove the mufflers to install them(w/clamps)? If so, is it simply unbolting them and reattaching or are there exhaust gaskets that will need to be replaced?
Last question: If I decide to have them welded...is it simply a tack weld? Will they need to have the mufflers off the car to do it?

I'm pretty sure the chrome tips just slide over the existing tips, then get tighten down with a clamp.

Not sure about your welding question... guess they can do either a tack weld or lay a bead all around.

Stock muffler tips are welded on...do you have slide on tip covers on order or complete tips? I'd think with the cost of tips and the welding costs - it would not be much more $$'s to get a set of nice sounding Supreme GTA axlebacks

The GTAs are actually what I want, but they'll have to wait for a bit. The tips are slip-ons from Ford. If it's a simple weld I'm sure I can get my local body guy to do it for $20 or less.
Am I gonna need to remove the mufflers to be able to tighten the clamps so they aren't noticeable?
BTW: The Tips are 'used'...so I don't have much invested in them.

I had those Ford chrome tips. They are good quality pieces and look nicer than the stock tips. They do indeed just slip on over the factory tips. If you do not have the instructions, there are two things you have to keep in mind.

First, don't push them all the way on. There is a little weep hole at the bottom of the tip that needs to stay clear. The instructions say to put a pencil point in the hole (from below) and insert the tip to the point where the pencil point hits the stock tip.

Second thing. Don't tighten the bolts too tight. Sorry, I don't have the instructions any more, but if I remember right they should be torqued to about 25-30 ft.-lbs.

Finally, what I did was to paint the bolt flat black with exhaust paint. I also painted the backs of the stock mufflers flat black. That way, everything just about disappears from a few feet away.

FWIW - the Supreme GTA's were only $265.00 with free shipping - I'd wait a bit longer and get them - the sound is just like stock but amplified (louder) and a bit deeper bass...plus you can't beat those dual wall 4" polished tips!

Good luck wichever way you go - but for the $$ the GTA's are hard to beat - I paid a $100.00 more for my Magnaflow axleback and the GTA's blow them away

I have the Ford (Shelby GT- H) GTAs on my GT/CS they sound great and like the man said, "you can't beat the tips". I also have the Ford X-pipe, just have to find the time to install it.

Sorry to pipe in so late, but I got the tips from my Friendly Ford Dealer. About $50 each with tax as I recall. Clamps included. In fact, if I remember right the clamps are very much a part of the tips. I don't think you can get them off. I don't have them anymore because I have the FRPP 5230-GTA's and they are, as many people have said, great.
