Flywheel Question.

I bought a Spec flywheel in June with a replaceable friction plate when I replaced my clutch. I have put maybe 3000km on it. I am replacing the clutch again and having a hard time finding the new friction plate. I am getting conflicting info. Some say I have to resurface (which I don't think I can with a replaceable plate) and others are saying if it's that new and not warped to just use emery cloth or scuff pad to clean it up. I am going from organic to kevlar.

What's your opinion?

Resurfacing is always best. Just like doing brakes. But with the low miles you say I would think scuffing it up with some emery paper should be just fine!!

IMPORTANT!!!
If the flywheel is the kind with the replaceable face plate thing then you CANNOT resurface it!!!!!

You have to buy a replacement plate from SPEC.
Odd are this is what you have.
Find the part number of the flywheel and call SPEC to find out for sure.

DO NOT just use a scuff pad.
That is insane.
Clutches and Flywheels bond to each other.
That is one important reason why Flywheels must be resurfaced.
If you scuff it you are making grooves in it that are NOT matching with the clutch, meaning
the clutch and flywheel will NOT mate together properly.
The replaceable plates cannot just be scuffed and cleaned anyway.

You need to buy a replacement plate from SPEC or buy a new flywheel.
PERIOD.

Spoke with Steeda and was told that with the low mileage as long as there is no warping or burning I can clean it off using emery cloth with brake cleaner followed by acetone since I have very little mileage on it. They did say that it's best to replace it so I ordered one through them.

I knew you could not resurface the insert.

I'm glad you decided to replace it.
I think cleaning it is B.S. unless you have like 500mi. on it.

3k mi. is PLENTY of time for the flywheel to mate with the clutch thus
not be good for a new clutch.

The one you had would have worked just fine. It was almost brand new.
