Danny,

I just had mine installed last week and I love them. Some will say the flowmasters are too quiet, but I think they have just the right amont of rumble. They are definately louder than stock, but the drone isn't bad at all. By the way, I have the American Thunder's specifically designed for the 05/06. I strongly recommend them!

Well I just posted this in another thread, but her is my take on the Flow Amer Thunder:

Oh there is drone w/ the Flows.
On a stock manual GT, 3.55 gears (stock) there is ALWAYS drone in 4th and 5th when under load (accelerating) between ~1600 and ~2100 RPM.

EVERY time.

But if you don't mind it, they sound good, deep and throaty. Stay above 2,000 rpm in 4th and 5th (more fun anyway) and you don't get into the "drone zone". They even give you a little gurgle when decelerating in gear, not like glass packs or anything, but some.

And let me add I like them!!

I love mine, but they do drone a bit if you put your foot into it at the RPM range mentioned. From what I've read, though, the only mufflers that drone less are the Magnaflows, and many people say they are too quiet.

The drone zone, lol!
But so true. I like mine. There has been issues with some getting rattles, but I hope they have them worked out by now. No issues with mine 5000 miles.

Well, let me answer this way. I wouldn't take off my Flowmasters for Magnaflows. But that's just me.

I had 50 series on my 66 convertible and the drone was so bad it was difficult to take on long trips. The American Thunders on my 06 are WAY better. They are deeper and a little louder than stock, but I don't think I'd want to live everyday with anything louder. It also makes a difference that they are all the way back instead of under the back seat like in the older cars.

I know i dont have an SN197, but i too am trying to choose between the flowmasters and magnaflows. i like the sound of the magnaflows, but sometimes when i hear them, they dont sound any louder then stock.
if anyone has any opinions on either, please share.

Danny, you need to hear the exhaust in person. Listen to them and pick the sound you like. Internet opinions and sound clips won't help.

I have had my Flows for a couple of months. I am very happy with them. They seem to sound deeper with some age.

I have American Thunder on my '05 and have almost no drone at all, but I put Series 40 Original Flow on my '98 Mark VIII and they do drone. It seems Flowmaster has engineered out most of the drone for the S197 Stangs.

Ditto on the drone under load in 4th and 5th, but that's what down shifting is for. I just put in the C&L CAI with XCAL 2 at lunch today and let me tell you, the sound definately got deeper and just a bit louder. Flows had a nice growl before and now it just got better.

I have experienced very little to no drone with the American Thurders and I think that they sound great.

i had the flowmasters with a manual, stock gears, BARELY droned. It was perfect for my dad when he drove it a few times. I switched to SLPs.
