On the flowmaster 40 or amercan thunder do you get the old drone at all?? Let me know, thank you

Well, the 40's will vibrate the rear so bad that it will sound like you are hauling a load of sheet metal.
As for the Thunder, they sound real nice. A small amount of drone will be noticable at certain rpm's, but it sounds very good.

Mine never stays at a constant RPM for very long anyway.
The Flowmasters, IMO, are the perfect mix of increased sound volume and sound quality. They are just tough sounding.

Well, I guess I can post this in here too. copy-paste:
Oh there is drone w/ the Flows.
On a stock manual GT, 3.55 gears (stock) there is ALWAYS drone in 4th and 5th when under load (accelerating) between ~1600 and ~2100 RPM.
EVERY time.
But if you don't mind it, they sound good, deep and throaty. Stay above 2,000 rpm in 4th and 5th (more fun anyway) and you don't get into the "drone zone". They even give you a little gurgle when decelerating in gear, not like glass packs or anything, but some.
BTW, I do like them!!

Yes, the 40 series drone bad. At least they did on my last Mustang, a 1997 Cobra. If you can live with the drone, the exhaust note at startup and revving was great.

I love the way the new Flowmaster sound. Not too loud at all but gives you a more aggresive sound then stock.
As for the drone I like it. It mak me feel like I am in a real muscle car.

No drone, no mess. The Flow axlebacks are pefect for me. They don't get too loud until you hit the "Go" pedal. Then they roar.

since you are about my age let me just say they arnt as bad as thrush header mufflers under a 66 mustang but they do drone.drive in the mountains and you will probably do as i did and take them off as soon as you get home.40 years ago they would be great but i guess ive gotten old.but to each their own and everyone has their own opinion.i just dont like drone anymore if it doesnt make it run better and they dont.

with 4.10's, cruising 80mph (3000 RPM) the american thunder axel backs (all other exhaust parts are factory) I have to turn up my music a bit to drown out the constant roar/drone. It's not real loud, unless I'm going up a steep grade. I don't notice it during in-town driving, or cruising less than 60mph.
It has a real nice sound, not very loud. Fairly quiet at idle, in traffic sometimes I can't hear the idle at all. When I'm alone or not in heavy traffic I can hear it (my idle is 650rpm), I'm glad it's not loud at idle though, because there isn't any lope. When I get on it, it's decently loud, not lound enough to scare folks though, I think it's just right for a fairly stock mustang, balsy when it needs to be, but doesn't scream "HEY I HAVE A STOCK CAM!".
