find a racing helmet cheap
#5
lol, well thats very true for bikes, my moto helmet is the best of the best, but the only way protection-wise its better than the cheap ones, is in multi impact collisions. In a car, you dont really need that protection, becuase you will hit stuff in the car, not your head against the pavenent or other cars as on a bike.

Apex Performance has good auto racing certified helmets at good prices. Motorcycle helmets are not rated for car racing. For car racing you need a SA2005 rating. An SA2000 rated helmet is the old standard which is still authorized in car racing and can be had on sale, cheaper than the newest SA2005 rated helmet. Do what you want, but if you don't meet standards for racing, someone will not allow you to race, then you have to spend more money to meet requirements.

Auto helmet rating rules only allow a helmet user to go back one rating, not two ratings. Ratings are changed every 5 years. The current standard is SA2005. Therefore, SA2000 ratings are still allowed. SA1995 would not be legal for helmet requirements.
By the way, whether you hit your head inside a car or on the pavement, the end results will be the same. If a helmet gets used inside a car, there will be more than one impact it will protect you from. To say that motorcycles helmets need to protect from multiple impacts and car helmets don't need to, because you only hit your head inside a car, is incorrect. Get a good helmet. Motorcycle helmets are not fire protection rated. Car helmets are fire rated. Is it possible to have a car fire? You betcha ya. The Snell ratings are tougher and more inclusive than just a DOT rated helmet. I use Snell ratings. My head is worth more than $10.00.
