I had the GTA's on for about 1700 miles and loved the sound. Just a little louder than stock, NOT A LOT louder, and no drone to speak of. But when I added Long tubes and off road pipe they were way to loud! Really raspy. So I then bought the flowmasters to give it a deeper tone. The car sounds alot better now with this set up, and still no drone to speak of. If I hadn't done the headers and x-pipe, I would have been very happy with the GTA's. Hope this helps.

Well, I have never heard one on an auto, but mine have as close to zero drone as any exhaust I've heard on an S197. You are the first person that I have seen post that they had drone with them as well, even with an auto.

And why are chrome 3.5" rolled slant cut exhaust tips gey? Sure, they have JBA engraved on the tips, which some don't like advertising, but I don't think it makes them gey. Maybe 3.5" rolled looks small compared to some of the 4" versions out there.

Anyone want to look at them, do a google search for JBA axleback and let me know why the tips are gey.

I think the tips look fine, but I too have heard they drone, although I can't say for myself.

I like the flows, but they seem to pop and ping a lot from the videos I've head when revved but maybe that's a cold start thing as I know my stockers do that at times. I also wish they were SS, seems they would be prone to rusting since there aluminized steel. That's what brought me to the hookers, they seem to have a similar sound but they are SS, albeit pricier too. I have no idea how loud they are though. The video on there site seems awfully loud for just a axle-back

I had the flows and liked the tone but they too like the gtas won't be too much louder than stock...But you can always get a catted pipe and make them louder...

Cool, was about just to post the same for my 08 GT/CS. I am down to the same selection as you are, with Pypes Violators in the mix and minimum to 0 drone. I'm likely only doing axle backs and then the intake & gears. Think I listened to too many sound clips, but what a great site for info.....

1. Flowmasters
Nice sound, are the stainless, possibly some drone, sound cool with O/R, but loud enough with the stock set-up ?
2. Pypes violators
Decent sound, maybe a bit too loud, **** good price from Brenspeed
3. Aerochambers
These sound cool, 0 drone, about the same $ as the Flows, here's a nice clip by one of the guys here http://media.putfile.com/Aerochamber-35 only worried about what tips to add as they come without ( the polished ones are a bit too much $$ )
4. GTA's
About the same $ as Flows and Hooker, no drone, but are they loud enough ??

if i ever get sick of my pypes M-80's I will definately be putting flows on....

flows sound the best in my opinion. i went with pypes cause it was a decently priced cat back with an old school muscle sound.

Wow those aerochambers sound pretty good deep and rumbly. I wish I could hear it on a stock h-pipe.

Stingers

Come on they're not THAT loud. (5spd though)

I was actually expecting a little more. Though the first time you fire them up on a cold engine in the garage it is a huge difference.

At work I started it up to head to lunch and a coworker said she could hear me through the wall/window a few feet down.

GTA's do sound great(I own a set) but there not loud enough IMO. They sound perfect now I have long tubes and an off road prochamber and it really woke those mufflers up. No drone still or trumpeting.

I'm really thinking about the custom mid-pipe, I got a good muffler shop here that's very good on pricing. I'm going to stop over there and see about cost if I supply the mufflers and tips for the new deletes. It seems that location will keep the drone down and there is something about having something that is unique.

I'm sure I'll second guess myself 1000 times though too, heck I am already LOL

I'll vote for the Pypes Violators. Great sound and price, deeper and louder than stock, no drone. Really sound nice when you get on it. (5 speed, though, can't inagine why auto is different) Not as loud as my neighbor with the Borlas.

I have a set of dynomax 14" bullet mufflers that i welded in the stock mid pipes and Pypes muffler delete's with the stock cats hollowed out and I absolutely love the sound. To me there is a little drone but not 1/2 as much as a welded muffler like spintech or flowmaster in the 1900-2000 rpm range. I really enjoy the sound that I get at 2750 rpms. Nice loud bark! But if you are going to keep the cats it will be quite a bit more tame. I did all of the work myself. i will take some pics and post them and try and upload a video.

I'm looking for low, deep and rumbly. I want it louder, but not loud enough to get a note on my garage from my neighbors I also don't want much drone as I have highway driving and my car is an auto. I also don't care for that popping sound but I know there isn't much to avoid that and it only happens a lot at a cold start.

My choices I've come down to are:

1. Flowmaster AT axle back
2. FRPP GTA's
3. Hooker Aerochamber

Now I also though about this option too, getting a couple 18" bullet mufflers (Magnapacks) and having them welded in mid-pipe with deletes for the ends but I imagine this is going to be quite loud and I worry if a mod like that will void the warranty opposed to axle-backs. I can't really go with an off road H and would rather just keep it simpler anyhow.

I have a couple questions, can anyone give an idea of the loudness of these systems, like which is louder then other.

If you have other suggestions please do, but keep in mind what I'm looking for, for instance I'm sure Macs sound great, but drone like hive of bees.

Thanks so much for your ideas and help!!
Dude, go with the Bassani Race axlebacks. They're the perfect sound, they do drone a lil, not overpowering...they're driveable though. My pony is a daily driver and I never get tired of it. It seems like it is getting deeper too, the more miles I put on it. You can pick them up for $450 from brenspeed.
