FI Recommendations...

Hey all, I'm trying to plan my mods to work towards my end goal, but the problem is I don't know what exactly that end goal is gonna be. I know I would eventually like to go forced induction, but I'm not sure exactly which type would best suit my needs.

The car is a daily driver and I would like to just be able to let it loose and have fun with it once in a while, maybe the occasional blast down the 1/4 mile or some spirited back road driving. With it being my DD I don't want to screw up the driveability and would like to keep the hit to MPGs to a minimum.

Any recommendations?

My car is a DD and I'm glad I have a supercharger on it. Daily driveability is very good. But put the throttle down and it is a monster. Only lost 1 MPG on normal driving. But if you drive with a heavy foot the MPG can get as bad as you want it to be.

I think forced injection is a much better option than staying N/A. Cams, heads, and all that will kill your MPG no matter if you are driving hard or not. Plus the power added though that route doesn't compare to being boosted.

Doesn't the E-Force have some kind of bypass valve to minimize the loss of MPGs?

Turbo! Stay out of boost and your mpg shouldn't suffer.

I've actually been considering that as well. If I decided to go that route I had my eye on this kit from Brenspeed: http://www.brenspeed.com/hellion05-07gt.html

My biggest problem at this current time is that the next upgrade I want to do is headers and midpipe, but I have to make that final decision between Turbo and Supercharger to solve the LTs or Shortys dilemma.

All superchargers have a bypass valve now.

As long as you go with a complete kit (fuel upgrades, etc), from a reputable manufacturer, you really can't go wrong.

Yes, all superchargers have a bypass valve.

Skip the headers. Any FI option you pick will be capable of making more power than the block can handle. So headers are going to buy you nothing. Not a lot on the sound front either. High flow cats (or not cats) will make your car a lot louder and more aggressive sounding. X or H pipe will alter the tone of the exhaust note.

Do some reading on forced induction, before focusing too much on brand names. I had a supercharger on my car and then went turbo (67mm then a 76mm). Had a conservative tune (8-9lbs boost) with the Procharger. Lots of fun, no loss of MPG when behaving. With a turbo, sizing for your application is very important....bigger is not necessarily better.

But it was my understanding that headers would allow you to make more horsepower at lower boost levels due to increased flow?
