Fast first gear......

Well today I received my extra set of 17" bullitts with 275/40 BFG Drag Radial tires....... (thanks NMRAjames!).

I can't believe how short and fast my first gear is with these tires...... it seems like when I got heavy on the throttle with the stock Pirellis, I had so much spin thru 1st and into 2nd that I didn't realize how quick 1st gear actually accelerates until now that I have great traction with this wheel/tire combo. I have most of the bolt-ons available with 303/318 rwhp/tq and 4.10 gears...... I guess more than anything now I'm kinda wondering how the 4.10s will be once the blower is installed.

To quote Ozzy, I think the 4.10s and blower will make this car a "CRAZY TRAIN"!!

I had kinda the same thing happen today. I drove the car for the first time for any distance with my new wheels and tires and could not believe how much sticker the Nitto's are than the stock Pirellis. I also have 275/40/18's and I am sure the extra 3 1/2 to 4 inches on the ground doesn't hurt.

So you are running the drag radials in the snow?

On a serious note Tom, those are the stock 17" Bullitts wheels right?

Hey Rich- the snow is all melted here..... it was almost 70 degrees here today.

The wheel/tire combo I bought has 17" replacement bullitts with the BFG drag radials:

I bought them just for the strip, but I wanted to try them out so I thru them on for an hour today. Otherwise, I'll be running my normal bullitts in the winter and my 18" DD chrome bullitts with 275/40 Nitto 555s in the spring and summer.

Are the BFG DR's better than the Nitto 555R DR?

Looks real good Tom!

I don't know which one is better...... I bought this combo from the classifieds section here. $450 delivered seemed like a good deal; the wheels are in good shape and the tires have some wear but little overall so I figure I saved about $100-$150. Can't beat the TMS classifieds LOL!

I'm still anxious to get my chrome's and Nittos on there though, and join all of you guys who have those nice shiny wheels!

4.10's and a whipple on my auto, makes the gas pedal pretty sensitive. A few times I have accidentally launched off a stop sign looking like a moron trying to show off Just a little bit more than a touch on the pedal and it goes. I wonder if there is a way to change the 'tension curve' on the electric throttle body?

the nittos definately hook better than the stock tires.... and it's nice having a wide tire in the back. I get a chirp going into second instead of a 30' patch of rubber.

Have you rolled your new set up next to your front stockers? I think they are a little shorter in height, so your 4.10's are probably closer to 4.30's.

Yes the throttle curve can be recalibrated. This is very apparent on N/A cars with Dougs tunes.

Yep, they're just a hair shorter..... you're right, it would lower the gear ratio a tad.

I just got my 295-35-18 BFG's yesterday. I have a Whipple HO, and 4.10's, this car is just sick now.
Here is a cool tire comparison site http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalcold.html
