Exhaust Delima

currently I am running all stock exhaust with flowmaster ATs. I like how they sound however they are just not loud enough. I am afraid going to a OR/H will make it to obnoxious as a daily driver...its hard to tell from the sound clips how it really is.
just curious what some of you think I should do?
again I like how my flows sound however they seem a bit tame...I would like something that will turn a few heads..

Scrap the flows and start with another set of axle backs?

get a high flow cat H or X setup with the flows? assuming this will give it a nice boost in sound?

go with a or/h and say screw the neighbors..(just seems like some of th OR/h flow clips i have heard sound a bit like a tin can at times).
Keep the flows and add LTs..and a CAI/tune (wondering if this wont make it significantly louder as well).

thanks!

DOn't go with an O/R H or X if you are worried at all about emissions or noise ordinances. The clips don;t do it justice, it is like driving a Harley, and you get alot of raw exahust smell in the car too. If you want loud, go with FRPP Stingers. If you want loud without drone, drop the bucks on a Corsa setup.

I'm not worried about emissions, I have access to a lift so swaping out my pipes isnt that big of a deal. I am also not so much worried about noise ordinances as much as I am just being a all out annoyance to my neighbors, I live in a old neighborhood in the city and the houses are very close together. I work nights and I do drive my car alot (as long as the weather is nice) so that is why I hesitate with the or/h, I am afraid it will be tooo loud although it would be the cheapest way to remedy the situation...to bad I cant find someone close to me with a similar setup so I could give it a listen.

I was in your same position. I wanted more and dropped the flows. I have ran the stingers and the pypes mid muffler ( current) and I think they would both satisfy you.

there aren't any mustang clubs in your area? that would be the best way to hear different set-ups.

personally, i agree that the flowmasters are too quiet. i got the stingers and i am pretty happy with them. very agressive sounding. just gotta dynamat the trunk and under the seat to control the drone.

I do not know much about prochambers...and if one was catted, would it be any different then my stock h pipe?

I also wonder if getting the catted H from someone like MRT would be any louder then my stock H.

Well, I had the flows and felt the same way. So I went with the O/R H and liked it. But it was on the loud side, and waking up the household seemed to be an issue too, lol. I also would wake up about 50 others. Animals in the woods across the street that is.
So eventually the flows rotted out, and I tossed the stock mufflers back on and its a happy in between for me. Just had to add the 4" tips.

I hear good stuff about sonicboost's recommendation too. I think its better to hear the setup in person 1st if at all possible.

you know I have heard a few clips of a or/h with the stock mufflers and I think it sounds pretty good...I assume you like it since you run it.

on a number scale can you give me some kind of idea how much louder it is? I assume the stockers mellow it out quite a bit, and do you still have a nice raspy sound on decel and when you rev it?

Yeah, you still get the gurgle when cruising to a stop.
I would say its about 20-40% louder than just the flows.

I have the Flows with Bassani LT's and Bassani OR x-pipe. I like the sound but it is not quiet by any means. It is however not as loud as my harley so my neighbors are just happy I am not driving that. If I could do it again I would have got the high flow cats since the OR pipe doesn't add much power. I think the a high flow catted x-pipe with the stock headers would have a good bark without being too loud.

I would recommend the O/R pipe. Your foot is what controls the loud meeter. I have a prochamber and it acts like a muffler. It made my car quieter. I then went with off road pipes for it and now I think it's perfect. The rest of the exhaust is stock even mufflers.

The difference between an O/R H and a Prochamber, is the Prochamber sounds deeper than an O/R H-pipe, and they also smooth out your exhaust pulses, which results in less raspiness, and trumpeting.

The reason I know, is I recently upgraded to a Prochamber with high-flow cats, and my Pypes Violators now sound deeper, plus they no longer drone anymore.

Wow that sounds good, loved it and I have listened to alot of exhausts clips. I am about to pull the trigger on Stingers and would be happy but think that adding a ORH to them would make it way to loud. I think that the stocker are perfect.

What are good tips to add?

Brenspeed says that the OR/H gives you 10HP, I believe them because eliminating the cats must free up some HP, 5-10 sounds right. Can anyone confirm?

Want to make your Flowmaster's a little louder? Just cram two cubes of butter in each of the tailpipe as far as you can get them in there, and take a long trip. The butter will burn-out your muffler packing, making them louder.

I have heard the old "fill your mufflers up with water" trick.. but never butter. Interesting..

It used to work very well with what used to be called "glass packs". Maybe it won't work here, but it would give your exhaust a nice sweet creamy buttery sound.

I'm going this route, will install the o/r to the stockers within the next month, heard quite a few clips that sound very good and no drone

Yep, I tried that with my Pypes Violators. The water causes that nasty backfiring sound upon letting off the throttle. Once the water drained out, the sound disappeared and was replaced by a nice gurgling effect.
