Exhaust conundrum...

Ok so I bought and installed the Hooker Aerochambers and I quote from there website "Throaty powerful sounds with no drone under load" Well they drone, and at about 1850 under load they get pretty dang loud, I wouldn't mind that much if they had a sound outside to match, but they don't.

Don't get me wrong they sound better then stock, very deep and powerful sounding and I'm sure with a off road mid pipe they would be awesome as there a hybrid chamber/straight through design and being so deep and smooth I can't imagine them getting very poppy/tinny sounding. They just don't have the volume, when first started cold they sound awesome like a sub woofer but as soon as it warms up it's no louder then stock.

I though don't want to change the mid pipe as I live in an area with emission testing every 2 years so I just want an axleback, got the hookers thinking they had no drone.

So I've come to this point. I know the GTA's don't drone but once again I don't think there will be enough volume increase, Corsa's to expensive, and finally I though about boomtubes, but I've read both that they don't drone and that they do drone, so which is true about the boomtubes, if they don't drone then they might be just what I'm looking for. I know when I took of the stockers I ran it for a few mins without any muffler and it sounded pretty decent though a bit unrefined.

So do boomtubes drone and do the GTA's really get any louder then stock (aka can you hear them when you are driving along, I like to hear my exhaust)?

There is just too many choices, I'm sure I'd love borlas but I hate drone, it's just one of those things that get in my ear. Heck even the flowmaster AB might be good.

Regarding the hookers, if you run an off road X I'm willing to be they would be awesome on it.

Thanks for the help, it's been so confusing just getting something right!

I have the Hookers man and they are deceptive (just like my CORSAS were) because you are inside the car

Its a whole different stoiry being outside the car and BEHIND it and its hard to get a good idea exactly what it sounds like when you are driving

When I had the Corsas and stock H pipe, they sounded different but I never got the FULL effect until a buddy took a vid of my stang as I back up and pulled away

it sure didn't sound like that IN the car!

try and get some video so you can hear and or have someone else drive it and then make your decision

I have had someone drive it, it sounds good but just doesn't do it for me, I like they way they sound if only they were twice as loud i'd be happy.

I want something that's deep and will turn a few heads but not drone (much) hence the leaning to boomtubes, but do they drone?

DEEP?

Put a prochamber on there - MTAS ride on here has that and it is DEEP

catted keeps it deep mean and friendly (that's what he has - stock cats with just the Prochamber welded in)

offroad prochamber? You want LOUD, that'll do it
(I tried that for a week and it was louder than I wanted - But I am a bit more conservative thatn others)

Pypes mid muffler. Minimal drone ( a lot less than my stingers) .Closest sound to the 2v that I have heard... I drove behind my car yesterday and I couldn't believe how good it sounded from the outside I also have a prochamber with the PMM...

I agree it is better to get an outside perspective on volume. I am running stock cats (so far ), H pipe with Boom Tubes. Deep & throaty with, what i feel, is minimal drone. I have had them on for a week and do not regret it so far. I want to make sure that this is what I want because I have not gone on a road trip, just stomping on it in town. Tone, drone, & sound is subjective. You will hear MOST people say that what they have is best, instead of unbiased opinion. You Tube has a lot of video clips of many S197s w/different set ups. Tpe in 05 Mustang exhaust . I hope it helps.
