So Dan, I have to ask: Do you have nothing better to do or are you just trying to get your post count up? It seems like the only time I see a post from you is when you are jumping on someone else's thread to say something negative (usually equivilent to "that is SOOOO yesterday!!!").

Yeah, he could have broken it down into more sizeable chunks, but still a good bit of info.

I have a feeling it was the facts in the article about that Amsoil crap you have in your car.

Actually, I like the popcorn eating smilie but it had nothing to do with my using Amsoil, which by the way is the world's best synthetic.

I edited that post to be much easier on the eyes, I could have been an hiney and let my previous comments stay but I decided to change them.

I use AMSOIL too, had good results, and used it for awhile.

I've used Mobile 1 too, no problems there either.

To each there own, but lets all play nice.

Don't worry about saying what you feel, I don't like to sugar coat either.

I'm not trying to bash. I just have had bad experiences with the self proclaimed "best in the world" synthetic. I've fallen for their charts and claims too, and used it in my 2001 Chevy Tahoe only to have valve guide problems soon after. Coincidence, probably, but it will never make it in my Mustang. Amsoil filters maybe, but never the "worlds best" oil. I'll stick with the Mobil1.

"Are you running a 50/50 mix of anti-freeze and water? Here’s why I ask: Anti-freeze is 10 TIMES heavier than water! If you are running a 50/50 mix, your engine is working 5 times harder just to move the coolant mixture around than if you were running straight water."

He states above that antifreeze is 10 times heavier than water.

Now if water weighs approx. 8.3 lbs per gallon, then a gallon of antifreeze would weigh over 80 lbs.?

We run the factory crap, Motorcraft oil and filter. I believe more in consistency, not changing oils or filters frequently more than any specific oil. I have had engine failures with both generic and sythetic oils (Mobil 1 and Amsoil). If you drive your car like we do then don't spend the money on the oil, save it for when you have to buy a new short block.

Must be that new "mercury-based" antifreeze... LOL

Amsoil is NOT crap.

All true synthetics are SO much better for your engine!! They flow faster at start up (ESP when cold) which = less wear.

They are more slippery which = less wear
They are more stable which = less wear
Etc Etc. . . . .

And YES they DO free up a tad bit more power, esp if you put synthetic all through the power train.

Motorcraft 5W-20 is a synthetic blend, giving both attributes, lower cost and synthetic benefits.

What he said. I take it to the dealership, let them do the changes with Motorcraft stuff. $20 a pop.

I think he is referring to viscosity not actual weight.
But I find it hard to believe that antifreeze has 10X the viscosity of water, so either way this may be BS.

Most of what he says it correct, however he states that phosphorous is a leftover contaminent of crude oil. This is not correct. phosphorous has been intentionally added to motor oil for years, including Mobil 1. The reason is that it reduces valve wear. Phosphorous additives became pretty much standard with the advent of unleaded gasoline since the lead was no longer there to protect the valves.

I also agree that Motorcraft 5W20 syn blend is good stuff. It is made for Ford by Conoco. It is a low phosphorous oil. If you change your oil every 3K - 4K I really see no reason to spend $5+ / quart of Mobil 1. Advance Auto carries Motorcraft oils. The 5W20 syn blend is about $2 / quart.

Anyone know what percentage synthetic the Motorcraft blend actually is?

does it really matter? I was under the impression that a Synthetic Blend is a synthetic blend.

Full synthetic, though less affordable, is much better for your engine in the long term.

Dino oil - eh, ok I guess
Syn Blend - a bit better
Full Syn - best as in no better

I present that list since there is always one person, or more, that isnt aware of oil quality. That one person is probably also using Slick 50 too. :notnice:
