The end of an engine's life?

What is usually the cause of a broken engine that is supercharged?

I'm sure it can be many things, but is there something common, like the pistons/crank/rods get damaged(which can be replaced without needing a new block) from years of forced induction? I'm just wondering cuz if I decide to SC my stang, I was wondering how much the damage would be to fix or would I need a new engine w/ a new SC or the old SC?

So far, the most common failure with the 3V engines have been the powdered rods. And almost always, once a rod snaps, it tears up a lot of stuff.

The rods,
If the rods let go your internals are gonna look pretty much like meow mix.(the dry kind). But you can save alot of the external stuff.
Tuners are pretty much up to snuff with tuning S/C's now.
But its been said many times in these forums..........if ya gonna play ya gotta...........

I'll just keep my backup credit card ($25k limit 5.9%) empty until I get the cash saved for rebuild. I'll drive until I pop it initially, then go stupid with it.

Thats the rod/piston collection pan. It's mainly used to collect the pieces of your internals so that they dont litter the highway and streets where your engine decided to destruct.

I have a couple of friends who have force fed cars and had to use the pans to collect parts. Both of which have since been rebuilt solid and run like monsters.

Do they usually rebuild their engine with the same block? Can they still use the same supercharger that was on the old engine? Are the only things they had to replace the connecting rods and pistons?

There is no one correct answer... it depends on the situation. In my case, the block had a window in it, so I got another block. Others have been able to re-use the block. I've read where some have kept the stock cast crank, but I opted for a forged Cobra crank. And since I wanted to make the engine strong, I replaced virtually everything else. The only thing left on the motor that was there when I bought the car is the throttle body and the timing chain assembly. Everything else from the oil pan to the heads has been replaced. But, I did use the same blower... no need to change it.
