Dyno Questions
I have an appointment on Thursday to have my final performance mod (for now), 4.10 gears, installed. Now that all performance mods are done, after installation of the gears, the Mustang will be put on the dyno at Lamotta Performance in Longwood Florida. I have heard nothing but positive feedback about this company. I already confirmed that Lamotta has a wideband air/fuel meter as well. What other concerns should I have? What questions should I ask? Please offer your first hand knowledge/experience and suggestions so I can speak intelligently with Jake the owner.
PS: this vehicle is a daily driver and I don't want issues with the check engine light. Currently has DiabloSport's soon to be released 93 Octane Custom Tune for the C&L CAI.

tmcolegr,
If Lomatta Performance is an experienced dyno operator and you are not having him tune the car, then there is not much to worry about
Anything he does will not effect your CEL. Just sit back and enjoy the show. Also make sure you arrange to get both the actual dyno graph and the SAE corrected graph. You might be aware that your 4.10 gears will cause you to have slightly lower rwhp readings than your 3.55's would have.

I have always heard that it will slightly lower your rwhp rating ... but I have also heard 'not'. The people that told me that it lowered it were the tuners/dyno guys themselves. But they may have been trying to make me feel better since I have not been able to reach my 300 rwhp goal
Maybe some others can pipe in.

I thought that changing gears did not change the HP.
I am not sure, just thought I heard that somewhere around here.

Kluski,
I agree with you that changing gears does not change hp at the flywheel. But it does tend to slightly lower the hp at the rear wheels.
No set of gears is 100% efficient. They all lose a small amount of energy to friction/heat. As a general rule-of-thumb, the higher the reduction ratio, the less efficient they are. There are lots of other variables (i.e. alignment, backspacing, material, lubrication, etc.) that also effect the efficiency. That's why I used the word "tend".
Hope this helps clarify what I meant.

Lamotta Performance can provide me with a both the actual and SAE corrected graphs. They use a Dynojet dyno.
Boss Hog - Isn't my current gear ratio 3.31 since I have an automatic and not a manual? I should be looking at about a 24% change with the new gears. Should definitely "bring her to life".
PS: There has been much discussion about the optimal air/fuel ratio. What is optimal? What is rich or lean? How much is acceptable before some type of additional tuning is required? How much RWHP & RWTQ should I expect to see with my current mods? As many of you have dyno tested their vehicles someone must know. Please enlighten me.
