Dyno help needed for auto trans

I have 06 GT w/auto trans. Going to dyno for first time in AM. What gear should I put car in and what speed do I go to before I stab it so it won't downshift? The dyno shop I'm limited to using has no experience with S197 auto.
Help from those that know would shurely be appreciated.
Thanks, Steve

It needs to be in 4th gear, but good luck getting to stay there without downshifting. You might have to start at a higher rpm than you would if you locked it in 4th.

Pull in 4th. TC=off. start pull at 3000rpm.
Make sure the dyno software is set for SAE corrected and not Standard conditions.
On the same graph you will want to see HP, Torque and A/F.

On the HP line you may see a "Whoop D Do" at about 5200 rpm. This is caused from the torque converter unlocking. This can be corrected with a custom tune.

Have fun.

So I guess this means put it in Drive, with OD & TC off, feel the gears changing up to 4th and then hit it at 3000 RPM's? Does this sound right? I want to pull with my FUEGO tune in, then without tune, then again with tune. I get 3 pulls for $75.
Also, what would be good safe A/F #'s. I could adjust with tuner if needed while there.
Thanks
Can you tell I'm new at this???

Who ever is doing the Dyno pull will have to lock your transmission in 4th gear. That way it keeps it in 4th through the full dyno pull. It keeps it from shifting into 5th. I think they use a tuner to lock it, so I dont know if your tuner will lock it or not.

I have read for a couple of years that the dyno guy needed to lock the auto's in 4th electronically somehow when they do a pull. I had my car dyno'd on May 5th at Brenspeeds spring dyno day. I saw them do nothing more than put my car in drive with the TC in off and the OD in off. NO Tuner used!!! You can see from the attached vid that my car goes up thru the gears normally until it hits 4th and away they go. If they did something special I sure didn't see it. What were your numbers? Mine were 275 rwhp and 278 torque with my mods.

No pull today. Rained out, outdoors dyno. So I'll hopefully get it in next Friday.
My handheld does not lock trans in 4th and the Dyno guy said it will just do a little jog at that shift. So from what I'm hearing the paek HP & TQ will be right before that shift. Is that right, or just keep on flooring it?

Steve,
I wish I new the answer to your question but if you count the shifts in my vid it shifted into 4th before the WOT pull. I have no spike in my chart from Brenspeed. I don't have a scanner here at home to post my dyno sheet but I just looked at it and there is no spike anywhere.

Once you get it into 4th gear, get the rpm's up a little way, like 3500 or so, and floor it. Hopefully it will not shift down to 3rd then. Keep going until it shifts into 5th. Your max hp will be just before it shifts.

If you shutoff OD, it won't shift into 5th.

true...true. Actually, it might still to protect itself if it gets to a certain rpm. I don't know though, I don't have an auto. I just know that the autos sometimes do things to protect themselves and the engine even though you may have selected otherwise.

Like downshifting. If you are going 100 and throw the gear selector into 2nd, the tranny will not shift into 2nd. It will downshift to whatever gear it feels is safe.

Anyway, it probably will lock it into 4th, but I'm just not 100% sure.

Why won't it shift into 5th? With OD off all that does is not allow it to dump the RPM's, but it will still shift into 5th. It just allows 5th to be a full rpm gear. It should go all the way to the rev limiter.

I sure like all the feedback here, thanks to all.
Scott I hope my pull goes like yours on vid. Ot's sounds like it stayed in 4th at the end.
Appointment to get pull in on 27th.

OD = 5th gear. If OD is off, it can't shift into 5th. The worst case scenario is that it hits the rev limiter in 4th if the rpms get high enough.

No matter if your TC is on/off if you're N/A... it won't spin. Even with S/C under 10 psi it won't spin...

Those are pretty good #'s for an auto trans with your mods. Do you know what brand of dyno you were on? Stock power for an auto trans is around 250hp 260 torque. I am also curious. Are you running stock wheels and tires? Not good that your AFR is confusing. Mine was rock solid at 12.8-13 at WOT. Can you post your dyno sheet?

That doesn't make any sense!
