Dumb Aftermarket Shifter Question

Just wondering if the Steeda Sport shifter is designed to work with the Ford OEM shift **** and boot? I want to keep the OEM look but reduce the shift throws.

Has anyone here done this...and if so, what were their experiences?

Thanks in advance...

If you are talking about the TRIAX shifter, it will work fine.

No, not talking about the Tri-Ax shifter, talking about the sport shifter in my link.

But if the Tri-Ax accepts the stock shift **** and boot (and maintains the same height), is it advantageous to go that route instead?

Not a dumb question...

The Tri Ax shifter is the way to go. It's a very strong billet unit. It maintains the factory thread, so you can use your factory shift **** on it. This is my opinion, one of the nicest shifters available at this time. It's got a great feel, and nearly impossible to mis shift into 3rd. You can change the height of the shift ****, as well. Just all around a nice unit.

I have a group buy going on for these for $269.99 shipped to the door, only until Wednesday of this week, though. If you're interested, either PM me or give me a call! THANKS

Thanks!

So from what I hear you saying, I can maintain the shifter HEIGHT that comes OEM from the factory - which, as you know, is quite short.

This has two different height positions you can choose from. I wish I had pictures to show you, but yes it's quite short! You'll love the shifter's feel, height, and quality!

I'm torn between the Hurst, the Pro 5.0, and the Tri-Ax shifters. I'm looking for a replacement for my Roush because it vibrates at high revs. Reading the various posts here is making the decision tough.

You cant go wrong with any of them. The Hurst isn't the right choice for more spirited driving or competition driving, but great on the street, or for someone that wants the old school look.

For those who want a short throw, stock look, great quality, billet construction it's gotta be Steeda Tri Ax or Pro 5.0.

I like the Steeda Tri Ax personally, but I've sold a ton of the Pro 5.0 and it's just as nice!

Thanks for the quick reply. My main concern is vibration. The Roush vibrates a fair amount at high revs and it drives me nuts if I feel like gassing it.

It's the "streetability" that I'm researching right now. Thanks for the pics! If the Tri-Ax also provides shorter, smoother throws while maintaining all the other properties of the OEM unit, then it is probably the best choice for me, personally.

I haven't had any problems with the billet units on vibration. Not yet, at least.

Seems as though increased road noise is a negative against the Tri-Ax and Pro 5.0, however.

I have the Pro 5.0 and love it! Only difference that I know between the Tri Ax and 5.0 are the thread size on their shift levers. The 5.0 lever doesn't have the same threads as the OE shifter, which doesn't matter with the OE shift ****. The OE shift **** still fits because the threads on the 5.0 shift lever just adapt to the nylon insert of OE ****. However, putting on some aftermarket shift *****, like the Roush Billet ****, is difficult, requiring you to really wrench down the ****, because cross-threading is required. As far as I know, the Tri Ax shift lever will accept the Roush **** fine, without cross-threading. I wish I could find a replacement lever that would fit the 5.0. I tried working with Gus at Steeda, but currently Steeda doesn't sell Tri Ax shift lever by itself. If so, there's a good chance it would bolt up to the 5.0.

You could seriously just bring it to a machine shop and have them either rethread if possible, or make you a billet shaft with the right thread. Just make sure they use T6061.

Yes, my north of the border friend.

The aftermarket shifters have a dual purpose. One is to provide a reasonable improvement on the track, the other is to facilitate the dummies who can't shift a enjoy a longer transmission life span before the warranty runs out. There are side effects of course, those being partial loss of hearing and/or a visit to the looney tunes farm, cause it sure are hell they'll drive you up the wall.

No, sorry the boards server was acting up all day. I haven't had too much trouble with road noise, yet I don't DAILY DRIVE an S197? So I assume those who do notice it alot more.
