Drove on my first Road Coarse saturday!! WHO SAYS MUSTANGS CAN'T HANDLE?
Yesterday, I spent the day on the road coarse at Phoenix International Raceway, at a N.A.S.A. event. It is a thrill to say the least. This is my third event with my 07 GT. I got signed off to move up to Group 3, which is faster with more areas to pass. I spent yesterday in group 1 and 2 which has a mix of people brand new to the track and some that are good performance drivers. My mustang handles really well and passed several late model corvettes, minis, wrx's, and 350z's. Now I go from a fast guy in the slow group, to a slow guy in the faster group. Its a great way to enjoy driving very fast with little risk, and to learn performance driving fairly inexpensivly.
I agree. When we line up by skill group, I always try to get my car in line behind a guy that's an obvious veteran. It's fun to play chase, and you can also see his breaking points and the "line" he is driving through the course. It's a great way to learn.
Another road course fan here. I have done two open track days with Panoz Racing School at Road Atlanta, planning on a NASA HPDE in March.
Here's a copule of pictures from the most recent track day on December 2.

I also have in-car video but it's not online at this time. I am trying to figure out how to edit the AVI file down to a shorter length and smaller size so that it will be hostable somewhere.
Kevin.

Yeah as much as I'd like to say that those cars were behind me because I'd just finished passing them, the truth of the matter is...
BTW I've put some in-car video from this event up on Youtube. The camera was one of those lipstick tube type cameras which was zip-tied to my front grill.

She gets the start and my finish towards the end.
My last run of the day was about 4 seconds faster than this run and my best of 60.808 seconds on street tires. To give a perspective, one of the top nationally ranked drivers there in a Z06 on race rubber got a best of 57.??? seconds. Most cars were in the 65 - 73 second range.
I was pleased to say the least!
