Question Does Mickey Thompson have a new street drag radial tire out?

I saw this ad in a magazine this week (Car Craft, July 2006). And I'm confused.

The top tire shown looks like the standard MT drag radial. But the one right under it looks more like the tread pattern of say a Nitto555R drag radial (i.e., more "streetable"). I'm in the market for daily street tire DRs, and I was looking at the Nitto 555R, but I'm not really wanting to go to an 18" wheel to get the diameter I want (28"+). I'd like to stick with the 17x9 Bullitts I have now.

This ad implies that MT now has a tire with a little more tread on it and is available in "16 new sizes". But, I dug through Mickey Thompsons website and I can't find anything that looks like the second tire pictured here. In fact, I don't see anything new at all. I would be all over this tire if they offered it in at least a 275/50-17 size (or bigger).

Does anyone know anything about this?

And I just bought the 275/40-17's! I would have preferred a 275/50-17!!
Not the first time that I've seen out of date website info though; time for a phone call I think...

I got a response to the e-mail I sent to Mickey Thompson.

The new sizes will look like the one with more tread. The new sizes should be available July- Aug.

I sent them another e-mail asking if I could get a list of the sizes the plan to release.

will those 315/35R17 or 295/45R17 fit 17x9 bullits?

think there will be clearance issues or any problems at all? only my back tires of course

I think you'd want at least a 10" rim for the 315. I'll likely put the 295/45s on a 17x9 wheel. The 315/35-17s are way too short for what I need (only 25.7" dia). I only wish they were going to offer a 275/50-17.

That second tire looks a lot like the M&H Racemaster drag radial. available in a 275/50/17 as well as 325/45/17, which might barely squeeze on a 9 inch rim.

I've been looking at that one as well. Just wanted to consider all my options before I make a switch.

Does anyone have a photo of the 275/50-17 M&H DR mounted on a wheel? I'd like to see both a sidewall shot, and a tread shot if you have those tires. Thanks.
