My 05 has it bad. There are 3 reasons I don't do big burn outs:
#1 I can't afford to go to the dentist for new fillings due to the axle shaking :notnice:
#2 Trying to save money for mods, not tires.
#3 Cops. :bang:
I am curious if the 06 has the same problem? I plan to get aftermarket LCAs soon. I would like Ford to fix the problem but how do you tell them "I only get the problem when I roast the tires"?

Yes it has "wheel hop" if that's what ur talking about. Ford designs the stock LCAs for normal use driving. They can make them cheaper that way.
I just bought some BMR LCAs off ebay for 119 shipped. Not a bad deal. You should get them too.

Yes I mean the wheel hop, connected to the axle hop. Did it solve the problem for you? I have read on this site that LCAs don't completely fix the problem, but they make it way better.
That is, I have yet to hear of a make that completely solves the problem.

Actually the first time I did it... just wanted to see how easy it could do it. I was amazed how sweetly this machine lays rubber !! Simply amazing, and I only used approx. half throttle.
I certainly won't be doing this often... the 18"s are too expensive to replace. But, boy was it ever fun !!

I've been driving my 05 for 14 months now and the only time I experence wheel hop is if I do a slow spin on wet pavment. I can feel the tires fighting fomr traction and then the wheel hop sets in. It happend to me twice and I know what not to do. Any time I lay rubber on dry pavment I pop the RPMs up to 3k pop the clutch and away I go zero wheel hop. Just my 2 cents.

My '06 wheel hops like a **** (although, not all the time). BMR LCA's are being installed next Thursday.

I would venture to say that whatever they do to fix this problem on the GT500 will be an easy bolt-on for our GTs. So for the guys that don't want to transfer even more road noise than stock but eliminate or reduce hop, this should be a good solution. My guess is they will just use stiffer bushings throughout the rear suspension. We shall see.

This topic is very old and you could get all the info possibly desired by searching "wheel hop." I know it's easier and probably more entertaining to start a new thread, but this topic has really been run thru the ringer. There are 4 pages of results when searching wheel hop. You would also need to change the time frame of the search to "any date" as opposed to last 30 days etc...

There is already 4 pages of results regarding if the '06 models have wheel hop? Wow, I'll have to check that out.
My '06 has the hops bad, just like I've heard most '05 owners report.

Well, I haven't heard of any changes in the rear end between the 05 and 06. 4 pages of results is roughly a few hundred posts regarding the search subject. You'll find that some guys went with the Metco's, Steeda, BMR fabrications lower control arms as well as the upper 3rd link. I had the Steeda lower's and upper and have since switched to BMR's. BMR makes some quality products. My wheel hop, as I mentioned in many threads, was about 90% cured with just the LCA's. 100% cured with the combo. I wasn't being a jerk. Just being blunt. There isn't too much about the S197 that hasn't been covered unless it's a new product, new issue, buildup, or someone posting a new track time...which should be in the drag racing section!

I wonder why some get wheel hop, and others don't??? I've made well over 200 passes on the drag strip (with street tires, as well as drag radials) and never had wheel hop. Is it more of a problem with the stick cars than the autos?

I started this thread at work. I didn't have a lot of time to do a search, just thought I would post a quick question and come back to it later when I got home.
IMO, who cares if it has been posted before.
Sounds to me if I want the wheel hop completly cured I need to get the LCAs and the middle one too. Looks like I am going to go shopping.

Just bought the BMR LCAs off of Ebay for $119.95. Sending them to my parents in Arizona and they will bring them home to Canada for me in the Spring. Just have to wait now.
Thanks for the replies

Ah, that's what that is. It's happened to me on low throttle/1st gear, icy/wet road and I felt the rear axle shake/hop. Freaked me out. I knew my wheels were spinning a bit, but didn't know why it was shaking/hopping. Oh darn, time to ad something else to the mod list.
I wouldn't have even known what to search on, so I personnaly appreciate the start of this thread.

well to add another note I never have really experienced wheel hop that often because when I do a burnout I usually drop the clutch @ 5500 rpms and hold it around 6500 and lay somewhere around 200' long patches of rubber. But even mild burnouts dont have it. I am running 285/30/20 rubber out back too so maby with the lower profile tire traction off the line is more limitied because of reduced sidewall flex. I do feel that the back end swings out easyer after I lowered the car. But hey hope that you can solve your problem. Mine right now is getting the body of the car fixed after my accident.
