Arrow Difference between X-Pipe Vs Catalytic X-Pipe.

I've been thinking about getting the Bassani BX X-Pipe and can't decide if I should go with the regular X-Pipe or the Catalytic X-Pipe. Can some one educate me on what is the difference between these two? Is it performance or sound? .... and is it worth the extra $$$?

An Off Road X-pipe has no cats, a catted X-pipe does. The cat reduces some sound, and has some performance deterrent, but it's (supposed to be) better for the environment and (in some states) may keep you legal and/or be able to pass an emissions check. The X-pipe w/out a cat isn't my favorite sound, but that's a matter of prefrence, and I haven't heard an X with a cat. Improving sound is not the cat's function. Me, I'd get an OR H-pipe, better sound than X (IMO) and very similar performance as either X, as far as I know.
Hope that helps.

You can always get the Bassani X that comes with cats and offroad pipes. I just picked on up on Ebay for less than $300 complete.

The difference is just the x-pipe will go to your stock cat's. The catalytic x-pipe has high flow cat's on it which replace the stock cat's thus meaning better flow. The main difference between the two is sound. Just the pipe won't do too much, the high-flow cat's will make it louder. You could just get the x-pipe and see if you like it and if you want more order the high-flow cat's

It should be here this week...... I bought it and also bought the complete Borla catback (with over axle pipes) and I'm going to try the X with cats on both the Borlas and the Corsas to see what I like best. I removed my offroad H, the axle pipes, and Corsas tonight. So as soon as the other stuff arrives I'm going to bolt it on and try! I'm really excited about the Borla kit- I figure even if I don't like the sound, I can keep the over axle pipes and use them with any mufflers. And the Bassani X with both cats and race pipes will come in handy when I go to the strip or feel like rippin' it up......

Yep they are the Stingers....... they should be here today and I will install them and the over-axle pipes today; but I'm waiting for the Bassani X to arrive later this week. I'm really curious to see how the stingers sound and the Corsas sound with the cats in the X. Whichever I like better is what I'm going to keep; the one that I don't like best will be sold.

05-1947: I remember your comments about your X- hopefully mine will be easier to install. Thanks for the reminder......

Oh by the way, I couldn't resist the urge to start the car up last night when it only had the factory manifolds on it- no H, no mufflers. It was loud but not as loud as I expected it to be, but man did it sound MEAN! I called my wife into the garage and told her that I had finished "installing my new exhaust" and she about jumped thru the roof when I started it up.

Ok, I installed the Borla catback tonight and for kicks, with my offroad H since the Bassani X hasn't arrived yet........

I'm going to start a different thread to I don't take away from the original content of this one....... for those interested you can look for it labeled something like "Borla vs. Corsa".

Yes, it really cracked me up.........

I never knew she was so good at multi-tasking: it appeared that while she was jumping for her life she was also contemplating divorce! Good thing the open headers wasn't permanent.

Thanks a lot for all the responses everyone, even the ones that hi-jacked my thread. lol

I went ahead and bit the bullet on the axle back exhaust and the x-pipe w/cats. However, I didn't order the BX series. I decided to be recekless and bought the Stainless Steel version. Now I can't wait till they arrive. I feel like an 8 year old on christmas eve.

I'll post some pics and hopefully a sound clip as well, once I get them installed. Thanks again.

No big deal Tom. I was just kidding around.

Anyway, I've got another question for you guys though. I was told by the guys at Ninosport that I would be able to install the x-pipe without cats if I choose too. I'm trying to get a deep rumble, a medium level of loudness (not that raspy sound), with as little drone as possible (i'm sure that's asking too much). To accomplish this, would you recommend installing the cats or not?

I would install the cats at first as I think it will give the sound you described better than running without them.
