Cooling fan doesn't work

Hey!

I have a problem. My engine cooling fan doesn't start anymore. So the coolant starts to boil and the pressure pushes the whole stuff out at the lid.

The cooling system works when I´m driving so I think the problem is really just the fan although I'm not a mechanic...

I checked the fuse, it seem to be o.k.

Any ideas?

Thx, Matthias

There is a Relay out in the Engine Compartment. Ck your Manual for location and Swap with Relay in Box with Same Part Number on it. If something else stops working and the Fans start going you found your prob!

I was going to suggest the same thing. A bad relay, which is what caused my taurus to have the same issue.

You want to fix that as soon as possible and don't drive it in the meantime. The first thing to go on an oveheated engine is a head gasket to say nothing of decreased piston ring life and other problems.

A good idea is to take it to the dealer and get it fixed asap. You can do the relay swap to check it and simply get another one if that's what it is as well(or if its out of warranty)

The block and heads are aluminum, so that's an even bigger problem.

I checked the manual today and I found out that there are two relays, cooling fan high speed and cooling fan low speed...

I haven`t tried to exchange them yet but I just don`t think it's the relay because wouldn't it be like a real big coincidence if both were broken at the same time?!?!

I know I should go and see the dealer but I live in Europe and I imported the car myself so there is a slight problem you see...

Thanks for helping so far and I appreciate any other hints...

I've also heard about a resistor located on the fan itself that has been known to go bad. Sorry, I don't have any more details other than that.
