I got 23 RWHP. And, no the AUTO's arte NOT screwed. Mine shifts harder, the shifts points were raised to 9000 RPM's and the Fule Cutoff at 6000 RPM was removed.

We are not screwed, we are saved w00t!

Was the 23 whp out of a custom dyno tune? Can you raise the rev limiter also? Thats a pretty great bang for the buck mod!!

yes, 18 from default flash from SCT, then tweaked to 23

Howver, the tuner believs he can squeeze another 8-10 out of it with some timing, injector tweaks and other things I didn't understand

Cool....15 whp is still great. I read on the website that if you get a cord you can tune it via a laptop. This would be a cool tool to use to do minor things. I am going to buy this when my Mustang comes in. Hopefully, I can be around 300 whp with a custom tune.

My shop says that they are hearing about 300rwhp (manual) from 93 Octane. You cannot find that at regular gas stations in California, though

Just one bit of correction on the CPU. It is NOT the same one in a Macintosh. It is related (sort of the same family from a base instruction set sort of way), but not the same one. It uses the current best MPU: the Motorola MPC555 (or one of it's variants) MPU.

That thing absolutely kicks butt! You will find that almost ALL the new CPUs from just about every single auto maker (and even Mercury Marine) are using this chip in their new engine controllers. About 2 years ago I was part of a group looking to design a DIY EFI system based on this chip. You would not beleive what it is capable of. Plus, it has SO much hardware functions integrated into the core (analog to digital converters, digital to analog converters, flash memory for program storage 32+ TPU channels (Time processor units), etc) that it makes ECU design almost simple. The programming is more complex simply because there are so many resources to control, but it is WELL worth it. Unfortunately, the DIY EFI project with the MCU555 never saw light of day, but it sure was fun working on it and learning about the different bits and pieces.

IUT jsut set it to 9000 RPM - You dont have to go there (or even try). This just helps eliminatethe fuel cut, etc.

If you want to read about the 4.10 gears and the SCT Excalibrator experience as well as the dyno info, I have it all documented here (see page 4 for the Dyno/Tune). If you cannot find your answers there, just PM me.

Nice info 2005RedGT! So your base dyno was at 232 RWHP? That seems a little low even with the variables in different dynos/air pressure/etc... I'm glad you got more hp with your mods! Keep up us updated! Thanks!

Cool. I did not know that! I was just pulling info from the PDF I linked to from the motorcraft site. Poking around on the Interweb it looks like the MPC555 has a 'compliant PowerPC instruction set', so it's like the little brother to the MPC74xx CPUs.

Still sounds cool to say the cars runs the same Processor as a G4/iBook/PowerBook.

Thanks for the info!

I was just joking about the auto tranny. The PDF has pages & pages of info on what the PCM does regarding the auto tranny. I have a manual GT, so I skipped over that.

This is awesome stuff.

Congrats on the PCM mods!

Once I pull mine out of the garage when spring arrives, I'll be doing the same thing.
Hopefully the aftermarket will have more toys to screw with the PCM by then.

Wow This computer stuff is so far over my head that I got left at the starting line.
I know I am a has been for sure now. I am fortunate to have the coins to hire the
expert to do it for me. Before long these things will be in lawnmowers too. I know the newer one do have a chip. Do we have California to thank for this too?

If I am reading correctly you got 23 gain on rear wheel HP and raised the shift points to 9000 and the 6000 fuel shut off was deleted. Is that correct? You are saying the auto now shifts at 9000 or are you manualy shifting to keep it in the peak torque curve? If yes at what RPM are you shifting? Mine now goes about 70 feet in first gear and hits the shutoff. have you changed your fuel pump yet?
If you blow this thing up at nine grand how are you going to explain this to the service manager? Have you found a way to by pass the history box?
Thanks for the info.

Yes 23HP gain, removed the the fuel shut-off at 6000RPM. The point at which it cuts the fuel is 9000 - basically a point it will never reach.

It was a way to simply 'never' hit the fuel cut points. However, the tranny still shifts normally (a bit stiffer now). We did tweak each shift, 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, and raised them a bit.

I will move the fuel cut off up but not to 9000. I have blown two engines in the past and would rather have a safety zone. Please tell us what your new shift points are.

I was going to recommend the same thing. For manual cars, I would say 6800 rpms is a good place to set the rev limiter. If you miss a shift and it's set at 9K....BOOM.
