CMDP Question
CMDP Question
I was reading through TacoBill's CMDP install tut, and I finally saw what was meant when they say that aftermarket CMDP's get rid of the butterfly valves. Okay, so I'm a car engine noob and didn't know what that meant before now, but now that I do, I have a question:
What are those butterfly valves for in the first place? It seems odd that Ford would go through all the trouble and expense to make that valve system, if they could be so easily done away with. Aren't they important for something?

(from poking around in the net...)
Also aiding efficiency are Charge Motion Control Valves in the intake runners. At low engine speeds, these electrically controlled butterfly valves close partially to impart a swirl effect on the intake air/fuel mixture as it enters the combustion chambers, which ensures more complete combustion. At high engine speeds, the valves open fully, allowing a peak airflow...

So would someone only install CMDP if they were interested in speed, over HP?
I'm more interested in off-the-line performance than top speed. Especially since there's hardly anywhere around here to safely get up above 100mph.

They help efficiency at lower throttle positions. When the throttle is opened up (regardless of vehicle speed or even engine speed) the butterflys open up to allow more air in. The problem is even when the butterflys are totally open, they are still a small restriction to the airflow. Removing them can help gain power at higher rpm's. High RPM's don't necessarily mean high vehicle speed. Think of first and second gear.

The delete plates will help gain more HP at higher RPM's. If you are interested in more speed, you need more HP.

Steeda's delete plates are a great idea for added horsepower and for a shift in the torque curve. It helps all around the board! You will need a custom tune for these, though. Let us know if we can help you out with either or both!

CR;
I hear you have CNC heads for the 3v's are you going to be adding any info to you website on these? i did see anything on the on-line section.

Yes sir! I will have them up in about 2 weeks. We're going through some moving and new building crap here until Oct. 1st. I'll have them up around then! They're sick... we installed a set last Thursday. I'll try and get some dyno sheets on it when we get in the new facilities.

Maybe OT, but can anyone comment on how they do dealer/warranty work with CMDP? Your car must be custom tuned to use these, right? So you can't just flash back to stock like you can with a basic CAI/tune, right?
If you are worried about warranty work; NO I would not install these. Yes you need a custom tune. It really depends on what warranty work you need though...
