I am in the process of ordering my c&l and would like to know if it could be painted. I know its not smooth but would it still look nice n glossy black with the bumps? Could it be sanded smooth or would that be a huge PITA?

Cant wait to load the tunes from doug from bamachips

Yes it can be sanded smooth and painted black but I would get it Ceramic Coated instead

Why ceramic coated...and would that still be glossy black?

How hard is it to sand smooth?

Has anyone done it...pics maybe??

Thanks

It can be sanded smooth without to much work. You could even grind off the C&L logo if you want to. If you got tired of sanding, you could just let the underside remain rough. It's like bodywork - you could remove the casting flaws for great results. Paint it or powder coat any color you want.

I'm in the process of smoothing out some factory 3V valve covers right now that I plan to have powder coated silver metallic like the 4V covers. They're going to be sweet when I'm done with them.

Ceramic coated would be better because the tube wouldn't get hot

Doesn't C&L have a new plastic intake? It would be less money and work than sanding and coating the Aluminum one.

They do have a plastic and I would rather that one. I think it looks better because its bigger. But the problem is it doesnt perform as well as the smaller c&l (10 hp difference at certian rpm's) So I would rather the more power...thats its first duity

I did find someone that will sand and powdercoat it for me for a very resonable price.

Here is a blue one he did...check out the powdercoating valve cover thread

Now I just have to figgure out if I want black or red!

I have the MMR intake tube and it is VERY rough. I could spend hours trying to sand it smooth. I am guessing that the C&L tube comes a good bit smoother.

But I'm not one to worry about the looks of the engine bay. As long as everything in there is functioning, I could care less if it's pretty or not. I just spray painted my tube, MAF sensor housing and my TB spacer with some high-temp black paint so they all matched at least. I guess it really just depends on if you want the engine bay to be show quality. If so, I definitely say spend the time to sand it.

I would guess coupled with a sticker at least 15...no no 20 rwhp

Not that im going to enter shows or anything...I just think it would look so good. Yes I open the hood and gaze at it from time to time Never had a car like this so I am going to have a little fun with it.

I am thinking intake tube black rubber parts inside out so there red, intake cover black and red like the pic, valve covers red like the pic, and headers ceramic coated black and that really helps with heat happy don

Actually, since it's a Candy color it's good for 25 without a sticker....if I add metal flake you'll need to add a roll cage!!

I didn't know there was a notable difference between the plastic and the cast one. If that is the case, id go with the JLT II, but I have to admit the powder coated and painted versions of the intake tubes do look nice and really dress up the engine compartment.

I went with the C&L over the jlt2 simply because of looks. They make the same power and I really thought the jlt didnt look as good as the C&L. I like a little show with my go
