Cams purchased

Been saving my car-detailing money, & I'm FINALLY getting my Detroit Rocker cams. Bought them yesterday from Brenspeed, & I'm heading up there Saturday morning to get them installed. I'm 2 1/2 hours away & I have to be there by 8, so it looks like I'll be leaving here at 0530! Not too thrilled about that, but I'm really looking forward to getting them.

How much is the install and do you need your tune updated?

What gains do you expect?

They charge $450 for the 4-hr installation, & I'm expecting 25-30 hp gain. (I thought about doing them myself, but the last cam I installed was in a small-block Chevy back in the 70's. And I've never put 2 in any engine!) I'm also installing Steeda delete plugs this evening, & expecting somewhere around 10 hp for them. Tune is required for each, but I'm already running a Brenspeed tune & updated tunes are free as long as the modification comes from them.

Well, it appears that the delete plug install will have to wait. Somehow I've managed to lose the instructions & don't really feel comfortable trying it without them. I googled, but couldn't find any online, so I'll have to get Brenspeed to send me another set.

Here's the instructions for the delete plates:

Once you have the intake off, its easy peasy to figure out how to remove the butterflies and use the plugs.

Thanx! The wife found the instructions. She'd taken them upstairs with some of her papers. Thanx dear!
I'll probably wait till after the cam install. If I do them tomorrow night after work, & something were to go wrong, Brenspeed's next opening for a cam install is in late May, & the one after that is in July.

$450 is a good deal for that install.

I know it would cost me at least $700 where I live (L.A.)

Just got home from my trip to Brenspeed. Cams & delete plugs installed, & I'm VERY happy. The engine pulls a LOT harder, & the idle is awesome. Money well spent!

I'd have to shoot them an email to find out for certain, but it looks to be between 800-900 rpm on the tach.

American Muscle sent me a tune for the Detroit Rockers and the idle was set at 775. I think 800-900 RPM would not be good as you wouldn't get the sounds from them.

775 sounds good. Any problems with bucking in traffic at that setting?

No bucking, just a nice shake. I have Prothane motor mounts installed, so they give the car a nice shake!
