Talked to chris at blowby today and apperently the instructions that were included in the cam boxes were for variable cam gears....no wonder i was confused. I removed the scan of those instruction from the previous post.

He also sent me a baseline tune today.

should be installing tommorow if I can get a baseline dyno run in by then.

Hey Johnny,
I will be following your install all the way thru. I intend to do cams after the Sydershaft and OBX headers. Just takes money. Can you take a present vid of your exhaust at idle so we can compare it. Best of luck!!

Are those washers spacers for the lash adjusters?

They are the shims.

That's what I thought. They actually look like washers and not actual shims. I would measure them to see if they are uniform. How much research did you do on reground cams before you decided to go that route?

I'd like to give my opinion on them but I don't want to screw up your thread.

Oh, and did they just give you shims or lash caps also?

I've seen shims, and I've seen washers...look like washers to me.

Just called BBR to inquire about the washers. He said they are the lifter shims. They go underneath the lifters which are located under the cam followers.

Brenspeed has just announance they will be selling a cam made by Comp cams that will be a no new spring cam.

I've just read in MM&FF, they were talking to Al Papitto (sp) about the mod motors and he mentioned some problems with the cam phasers and high spring pressures (erratic operation and phaser failure).

Now it is getting interesting. Before, the thought of dropping a grand for the parts (cams and springs), plus another $700+ to have them installed (the springs swap is a task I just don't feel comfortable doing) just didn't get me too excited about the power gains. I've always been a little leery of BBR, so I didn't really trust the claims about the no springs requirement.

Now, however, with Brenspeed and Comp Cams coming out with a solution I'm starting to reconsider cams. It's an install I can do, and the cam phaser issue shouldn't arise if stock springs are used. Kudos to Brenspeed to bringing these to market.

Got the cams in last night. My camera's memory stick was MIA when I started the install so my taco bill writeup will be without many pics. Although I think I can stich one together from the available pics on the web and the instruction PDF from ford so no worrys i will still do the writeup. I dynoed before the cams, and will hopefully be tuning this week. It sounds MEAN!!!!!

I am very happy with how it turned out, and proud that I did it myself.

I did have to fabricate the timing chain wedge though....you guys will have a good laugh at my version, but it worked!!!

I did not use the spring compressor from ford, just put the motor in the right posistion (TDC on the exhaust stroke for #1 cylander), marked the chain and sprocket, and pulled the sprocket off. the cam moved a little bit (5 degrees maybe) I then loosened the cap bolts in the same pattern as the torque sequence and pulled the cams. The installation was basically reverse of that. The shims went under the lifters and I applied grease to the lifter base and stuck the shim on, then reinstalled the lifter.

I had a buddy helping me (moral support mostly, although he has done several overhead cams, and was the one who suggested the removal and installation method) and it took about 6 hours ( I was being very apprehensive and careful)

This was a cold start on a 40 degree night with lots of rain....give it a few seconds ( 30 seconds to be exact) before it reaches it's full potential. It is not tuned yet either mind you, and I am not crazy about my mufflers.

Turn the sound up!
