I've read on some posts people say that the car sounds better after the CAI install. Does the CAI have any effect on exhaust tone or loudness, or is the sound people refer to up front?

 

More air goes out the back as well as goes in the front.

 

With the CAI your car will sound awesome!!!!! The exhaust sounds the same but hit the loud pedal she just wails!

The sounds alone is worth the price, the added horsepower helps too

 

The sound is definatley there , some HP as well I can feel a much quicker response in the cars acceleration too, I even believe that I get better gas milage ?

 

Thanks...I've been thinking exhaust would be my first mod and that's why I asked if CAI changes the exhaust note at all. I'm not planning too many mods, probably just exhaust, CAI and maybe a shifter upgrade although that one is way down the list.

Man, you put the kiss of mod death on your Mustang with that statement.

What we try to do around here is to NOT make a statement like that...........because we all know.........its not really true.

Most of us have sought professional help and have managed to keep the mods down to a respectable level. But those who wont admit that they have a mod problem and refuse to seek professional help have gone as far as taking a 2nd on their homes in order to feed their cravings.

I feel for ya man. The next thing we will see is pictures of you smok'in the tires at the drags posting times in the 11's.

I know it's crazy, before I got the car the only thing I thought I would ever do was exhaust but now I'm thinking of just the few I mentioned. Then in the back of my mind I'm also thinking I need to get a replacement decklid to have the spoiler delete I always wanted...and I am liking that new Cobra only faux gas cap from FRPP I jusr saw.

The only thing I have going for me (or for my wife I should say) is I have almost no budget for mods but I know I'll figure out a way to get started!

 

FWIW I put my Ford Racing Stingers on first then about a week later I added the JLT CAI and Tune. After the CAI and tune the car was actually quieter. Not sure why, but it definitely was quieter on the exhaust end.

 

Are you sure it wasnt just in your head, because now you don't only hear noise from the back of the car when the exhaust exits but also from the front where the air is being sucked in. So possibly some of the sound cancelled out, So to speak?

 

My exhaust is too noisy to hear any sound coming from the air being sucked in. In total though the sound was less after the tune installed

 

To answer your question, Yes. Also, the comment you made about mods was funny. These cars are so easy to modify it becomes addictive. Pace yourself or you'll be broke.

I was wondering how some of these people have done so many thing's to there car's. I am definently an addic when it comes to moding this car, I was only planning on wheels, intake, and exhaust when I got this car. Now I find myself in a daze sometimes thinking about all the mod's I want to do. I want it all I have never used credit for a mod though, I try to stay away from that because then I know I would definently be in trouble!

So is the "sound" the sound of air getting sucked in the air inlet? Is the sound different if the inlet tube is plastic/rubber like stock vs a hard metal satin or polished tube?

 

GottaHaveIt...are you baseing that on the digital mpg readout from the "info" button? I now have 3K miles on the car and I am getting a consistent 17mpg. I was getting 15-16 at first but settled in to just over 17. Historically I always get right at the city number with my commute being stop-and-go-highway and my lead foot

On a solid highway trip I got 24 and I was doing 75mph all the way. Better mileage certainly helps justify this potential mod.

 

I'm consistently averaging over 19mpg and a lot of that is in traffic (DC area). I do goose it when I can and spend a fair bit of time shifting. Went to the beach in June and got almost 27mpg. Power with gas mileage - gotta love it.

 

i just installed my C&L Street kit last weekend and i've immediately been able to hear the sound of it sucking in air.. but yesterday it got noticeably colder here in jersey and i was able to hear quite a bit of difference in even the exhaust note (bassani's) b/c of the cai and tune.. almost deeper than normal and more burbling on decel too.. sounded great and the car was running great in this cool fall air! loving it!

 

The front end hisses now (C&L CAI) with intake air, and when you get on it, the exhaust roar is throatier as well. It's not an unpleasant effect.

 

Not at all. You're bringing more air and sending more out - not a s/c but an attention getter.

 

I think I'm convinced and this will probably be the second mod! Just need to find$$$
