I really have been debating on holding out until CDC releases their shaker hood or just going ahead and installing one of the aftermarket CAIs. I love the apperance of the shaker hood on the Mach 1 but really wonder what the performance difference would be between the two. Any opinions??

Get the CAI and Flash Tune Now, then add the Shaker hood when it come availible.
there you go, best of both worlds!

I would wait for the shaker system definitely. And also in MM&FF this month, I saw a k&n cai for the old shaker systems being advertised. They also said you can see a gain of 10 hp OVER the gain of the Shaker itself. So I would wait unless you want some quick power now.

I had a shaker on my 2001 GT.

The shaker is very cool, but don't expect any power from it. It's mostly a looks mod. You'll get some cooler air to the engine, but that black metal shaker gets really hot, so I don't know how much cooler the air is.

You won't get much from just a CAI either, unless you get one of the ones with a new, smooth intake pipe before the throttlew body. Even then you'll need a tune with the new engine management system...and it's unclear if even the best CAI gains more than 1-3rwhp over just a straight tune.

Get the shaker if the look suits you. If you want power though, get a tune and some 4.10 gears.

Thanks for the advice, although it looks really sweet I would rather have the hp over something that's more of a cosmetic change with little added performance. I was really stuck on going with C&L's new intake setup with a custom tune and looked at CDC's website again and saw their stang with the shaker on it. It just made me wonder if it could compete with the gains of the latest CAI's. C&L needs to hurry up

If you got a shaker you would have to get a tune anyway and changing the rear gears doesn't add any power.

the rear gears may not add much power, but it definately distributes it. I hear an average of 50mph in 1st and 80mph in second. those 4.10 gears sound like a great mod for lighting up the tires and jumping out of the gate at that red light.

I don't think that you'd need a tune with the Shaker...it anly adds parts in front of the filter...the MAF, etc (even the filter for that matter) remains unchanged.

True gears will not add power, but they will make the car accelerate much faster. Which is why most people *want* more power...
